I didn’t see many Liberty games on TV this year so it’s hard judge accurately. Based on box scores she didn’t do alot

You can't judge a player's worth or production in a game by simply looking at a box score. Alana Beard (Duke 2004) of the Sparks is the glue and the heart and soul of that team. SHE is the straw that stirs THAT drink!! If you look at her line in the box score, it may appear that she didn't contribute much. Some players don't score a lot of points every night, but they contribute in other ways. Ways that don't necessarily show up in the box score.

alana_beard_ts.jpg

Being the floor leader, playing defense (she is their best defensive player), guarding the other team's best guard, etc. Like Kia and Gabby, she can keep her man in front of her. Ask the Sparks' head coach Brian Agler, or any of their players, and they would all tell you, they would have a hard time winning without her. Agler is not stupid. He has won 2 WNBA championships. Veteran players like beard, that know what they're doing, and can still play defense are hard to come by. As long as Beard can play at that level, he's not going to cut or trade her.

Are you comparing Aleana Beard with Kiah Stokes? I think that is disrespectful to Aleana Beard. Beard has done it a whole lot longer with a whole lot more impact. If Stokes has half the career Beard has had she will have been a terrific player.
Beard is close to Hall of Fame material with so many ways she can help win a game. I will not be challenged on this matter.

How could you possibly have read that post as being disrespectful to A Beard? When it went on at some length to extol her virtues, no less. Did you read the first sentence? The poster is using Beard as an example of how great/valuable play may not always show up in the box score.

2/17 Kiah's game today was a 67-51 win, she had 16 points, 11 rebounds and one block. She continues
to average a double double for the season. It been very good season for Kiah.

I hope this kind of stellar play carries over into her WNBA season this year. That's what all of her fans have been waiting for. The only thing holding her back is her lack of confidence.

The "real" fans will be there. People will support a winner. Look at The Lynx, South Carolina, Mississippi State. They play to a packed home crowd on most nights. If you build it, they will come.

NYC has a lot of public transportation limited people (I am in this category) who don't own (or rarely use) cars. My understanding is that the new venue is not accessible except by car. :(

But only 5,000 of them can get in, as opposed to the average 9,888 who went to their games at MSG last year. Guess some of those weren't real fans?

Thanks for the reply. I've never been to NY. It's on my bucket list. I didn't know that there were public transportation limited people there to that extent, and the challenges that dynamic poses. Most fans out here either have a car, or use Uber or Lyft.

Especially in Manhattan where traffic, lack of parking etc make car ownership very hard . The outer boroughs are somewhat less affected but the Quality of the subways makes it the very preferred mode of transportation. Not sure what Uber/Lyfy would charge but I imagine it would be very expensive from midtown etc. Bottom line: Dolan shafted us and probably signed the death warrant of the Liberty.

PS. I imagine upper NY fans in the vicinity of Westchester are already Sun fans.

It sounds to me like the franchise would have been better off under new ownership. I've been following the Liberty since Kiah's arrival. I like that team. I hope they find a new owner that will do right by the players and their fans.

Not all sites cover the other competitions, but the Turkish Cup was played last week:
Turkish Cup February 21st-25th - Women's Basketball 24.7

Kiah had her usual solid games, but the team lost to the top club in the league in the semifinals after beating the team the Diamond DeShields plays for in the quarterfinals.

Bria had a big game, but her team lost in the quarterfinals.

The surprise story was definitely Barbara, who is usually the fourth or fifth option on offense for her team, but led them in scoring in their first two games, which were both wins. She went a little cold in the final, which they lost.

Kaili's team did not qualify for the tournament due to their poor record.

3/10/18 Kiah's latest game was 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks in her teams 5th straight win (79-72). She continues to play well as the season starts winding down.
Hopefully she can bring that kind of scoring back to the Liberty this season.

Enough already. I'd really like to see Kiah put up these numbers (14/13/3) nightly for 34 games this season. There's no earthly reason she can't. Physically she can do it. Mentally she can do it. She has to challenge herself every night to not rest until she has a double double. She needs more aggression in her diet. 5 points and 5 rebounds in the each half. How hard can that be? Whatever blocks she gets is a cherry on top. When she touches the ball, she's got to look to score instead of passing it. When the ball goes up, she has to look to get the rebound, regardless of which end of the court she's on.

I think you have more belief in Kiah than I do. What I saw of her last year she was sleep walking and I would have had a heart attack if I were the coach. Yeah, I guess she has the potential but it’s time to do it. Jonquel Jones spends one offseason and comes back superwoman. Too much potential and not enough results so far Kiah. She wasn’t good last year.

I do, but my patience is running thin, but I haven'y given up just yet. It's now or never (Elvis). As you said, if Jones can do it, there's no reason she can't. The only thing holding her back is her.

4/7 Kiah had 10 points, 7 rebounds and one blocked shot in a 74-66 loss.
She has one more game and then back to the US and the NY Liberty.
