KenPom Rankings since 1997

Here's the writeup about it:
Program ratings | The kenpom.com blog
A straight average is fine, but when a human, especially a coach or player, is subjectively comparing two programs, they are surely allowing for recent history.
So there’s more weight given to a team’s best seasons since 1997. Now take that weighted average and throw in some juice for conference affiliation: It’s 85% team, 15% conference in the current iteration. The rationale here is if the Pac-12 suddenly handed out a membership Cal State Fullerton, you better believe the Titans’ would be a much more desirable location for coaches and players.
There is one more ingredient and that involves people. If the best basketball players are consistently choosing certain programs that says something about the stature of the program. So I add an adjustment using a recruiting rating based on the final RSCI rankings for each of the past ten seasons, giving more weight to recent seasons.

I bet we get a boost next year for the Big East (obviously especially if we win some games this year, too).

Ugh. His stupid paywall so I can't see the results.

The team with a 53% winning percentage over the last 5 seasons in the 7th best conference is ranked 19th.

Yeah, we will bounce back with a couple decent seasons plus Big East. I don't get Arizona. The Pac12 is blech, and they haven't done much of anything and have massive potential NCAA issues. They should be much lower. The top 4, 6-7 seem right to me.

.-.
Really? I can see it and don't pay

I got there via the tweet, which wouldn't load at first. Going direct to his site it was blocked.

Looking at the Big East like...

E6E020EB-70C9-4991-914E-5C24C56CD502.gif

.-.
To clarify, this is NOT a ranking of the best programs since 1997. He is trying to determine which programs are currently the most attractive and I think it's pretty right on for us. I'd have us in the 15-20 range.

Ken Pom had us 10th after we won 11 straight against 7 ranked teams. What good is he?

.-.
Biggest surprises to me were Texas at #10 and Maryland at #14.

Texas more so for the lack of success, and Maryland because I think it's a fish out of water in the Big10 (albeit a very rich fish).

Not much better here either.

25XavierBE+21.48121998812005310111600717

5 more sweet sixteens, 3 more elite eights. More sweet sixteen appearances than anyone in either league not named UConn. How is that not much better?

So let me get this straight...the team with the most championships in that span is ranked #19?
Tells you all you need to know about KenPom.

This tells you that Jim Calhoun and Calhoun-coached players were winners. They rose to the occasion in winning time. (As did Ollie-coached players, for his first two years.)

Uconn's inconsistent rankings are what hurts. Pretty sure the standout stat is that '179' in 2018.
Feast or famine. It's resulted in 4 NC's but it's also resulted in some missed tourney's.

From 94-2014, I'd say Uconn is a Top 5 program. Not even debatable.
But when you add the last several seasons, there is a little work needed to restore the program. Shows how far the program had fallen recently.

.-.
it means that his model which is proven to be very accurate ignores the bias that people feel the need to cry about when they don’t like the results.
Accurate at what?

Accurate at what?

Determining the realtive quality of college basketball teams.

If you disagree i’m more than happy to book your wagers against the kenpom score prediction.

I'm sure you would be happy to book my bets. But you seem like the kind of guy that wouldn't pay off. But I'm sure you would have good explanation.
