This is his explanation of the ratings:

I’ve updated the program ratings for another season with a new and improved formula. Past versions were a time-decay weighted average of adjusted net rating since the 1997 season with some influence from current conference strength and a dash of recruiting history. The new formula is similar, but the recruiting history now includes both transfers and freshmen (thanks, 247sports.com) and I’ve added a component of historic tournament performance.

There is only one way you should judge these ratings and that is based on which coaching job would the average human take if presented with two options. If you were the head coach at West Virginia (31st) and were offered the job Indiana (17th), would you take it? Most humans would. If you were the head coach at Maryland (19th) would you take the job at Villanova (11th)? Maybe not by secretly negotiating your exit while your old team is fighting for tournament glory. But nevertheless!

No recruiting data in the chart. And his explanation really is saying this is a ranking of the best jobs in CBB. What do you think?

I'd probably put UConn ahead of Texas but otherwise that seems about right for the top 10

That 2018 season keeping us down.

Seems mostly fair but I don't know if a rational person would take the coaching job at Michigan State over UConn.

On that metric, Indiana at 17 is pretty funny

Syracuse in top 25????????????????
UConn has 6 NCs and closest is 3 shared by three teams during this time period
UConn should be rated in top 5 at minimum
No Houston yet Bama is included?

The problem there is that is not a viable scenario IRL. No "average human" would qualify for these positions so it's reduced to yet another opinion list to draw more attention to Ken Pom.

If Mick Cronin was shopping HC jobs, then factors like NIL, program trajectory, conference stability, autonomy of HC, etc would be bigger factors and we haven't even gotten to salary.

Our head coach had the opportunity to go to KY and didn't want to. That alone, means it is flawed. No way Mich St, Texas, or Arizona are more attractive coaching jobs than UConn. In today's world- aside from conference affiliation, why is the UCLA or Florida job more attractive? Clearly I am biased, but to me- right now- UConn is a top 5 college basketball coaching job.

In a vacuum I'm not sure how many people would take the Michigan State job over UConn either.

I also think the idea of Gonzaga without Mark Few isn't a "good" job. In fact, I'd take any Big East except for DePaul and Butler before I'd take the Zags.

Nice metrics.
But still, six titles for the good guys. It's like the others aren't even trying. ;)

A Big Ten school gets what, $80 million in a year in TV revenue and we get like 6? I don’t think a rational person would pick UConn over MSU in the current climate. We are fortunate we got Hurley when we did and that’s he’s wired the way he is.

Hurley is just a different breed.

No other program went from a top conference to the Island of Misfit Toys the way UConn. That we survived to win once never mind thrice is incredible. For all Sparty's greatness they still got waxed by 7th seeded UConn as the tournament favorite. Sparty sucks.

You need to throw out the best and worst years and do it again to get a fairer picture.

UConn would likely be 6th or 7th if KO didn’t get stuck in a blender for a couple of years. That 179 is an insane eyesore
This

Those Ollie years in the AAC kill this metric. Some of those other programs were consistently “good” without ever being great. We just happened to have a run of god awful we’d all like to forget about. I’ll take the great years.

From a perception standpoint no one is ranking us below the Big 4.

We lost 3 spots with the update and a lot of that is probably the historical tournament stuff he added. We don't have much pre '90.

We are better than Texas in almost every metric. This makes no sense at all. At worst, UConn should be 8th on this list. Villanova and Gonzaga would also be above Texas.
