Kenpom is out

Favored in every game! No, that doesn’t mean we’re projected to go undefeated. We’re projected to go 26-6 overall, and 16-4 in the Big East.

Won’t complain about UConn in the top 5. St John’s feels too low, I guess the analytics think the sum will be less than the parts. Creighton feels low too, 41 is barely above the bubble

Marquette feels like the opposite of St John’s, Shaka should have the sum be more than the parts but for ranking reasons this feels fine. I think PC is too high and Seton Hall is way too high

Don’t really know what to make of Georgetown, Villanova, or Xavier

5. UConn
16. St John’s
41. Creighton
47. Marquette
48. Providence
50. Villanova
62. Xavier
72. Butler
78. DePaul
82. Georgetown
93. Seton Hall

The fact that all 11 teams are in the top 100 is really impressive to start.

It’s really not great for the conference that we only have two teams ranked in the top 40. If I’m trying to be optimistic, having no really bad teams will help. We will have a chances at decent wins in the conference, and very few opportunities for catastrophic losses. This was definitely the right year to build such a tough non-conference schedule, though.

Rothstein had some interesting sound bites on StJ after watching their practice this week - his views that still a work in progress figuring out chemistry. Not surprising.

I'd buy on Marquette - I don't think they'll be a top team, but they will be better than 47. They're going to be rolling back 4 returning upperclassmen and sophomore Parham, who is a solid player. Key will be strength of Sean Jones.

Worth noting out OOC opponents generally all rank high, outside of Texas. Illinois is suprising at 6 - lot's of opps to get that into a good spot for the resume. Two doozies at MSG.

Marquette believer now, eh?

I believe they're better than 47, yes. I think Shaka gets them in that 30-35 range. They hit on the most important criteria, rolling back minutes, mainly upperclassmen.

SJ has been the most overrated team in the country this pre season imo. I think it’s so obvious they’re going to be a disaster.

You can’t replace a whole roster with first year transfers.

They’ll go as far as the leaps from Ross, Parham, and the big man rotation of Gold, Hamilton, and Clark takes them.

IDK - disaster sounds a bit extreme as they're deep, they'll play D and they have Pitino. Arkansas that low is surprising.
Why will they play D? Sanon, Hopkins, Jackson are all negative defenders. Tney were great defensively last year because the had the personnel. They have no pg. Pitino is already throwing out excuses. Pitino isn’t a magician. They’ll be the Kansas of the last couple of years .

They have Mitchell on the bench, high plus defender, Zubi. Part of why they were great defenders last year is because Pitino pushes it - need that lateral quickness yeah know.

They do have a PG, just have no idea who this Sellers kid is.

I don't see Kansas of the last couple years. That team was super flawed because of 3 players, Dickinson, Adams & Harris that Self couldn't move off. I'd agree their ceiling may not be as high as a guy like Parrish likes to think, but their floor is also high because of talent, athletecism, defense & coaching.

They have Dylan Darling who was Big Sky POTY at PG fwiw.

UConn, St. John’s, Creighton, and Marquette will be tournament teams again. One other team will make it and my bet is Nova. I think Georgetown falls one win short.
Georgetown will go as far as their transfers KJ and Love take them. And how good Vince can make them defensively.

Bart Torvik has his ratings out as well. He has UConn and ST Johns about equal, at 8 and 10, and Crieghton at 23, and Villanova, MArquette and Providence around 50. His rankings are based on last year's performances of all the players--including transfers, and some info about freshman as well.

I would be interested to see if someone could calculate the conference rankings…
