Just completely took Maya out of the game for almost 20 min. Maya still had 26 points (almost all of which came when Kelly wasn't on her), but Kelly had an absolutely superb game tonight.

Pretty amazing that Maya had as many points as she did given the great job Kelly did on her for at least half the game. I have a feeling the Sun are going to really struggle this year.

Wow. Sorry I missed that one.

Anyone who can take Maya out of a game for more than two minutes will really have people sitting up and taking notice.

yea, she really did a great job getting a hand in Maya's face and disrupting her shots. Kelly got a lot of minutes and did some damage, and I hope that folks are appreciating this because much of which she did will not show up in the stat sheet.

She did get a steal to 2 FB points as well!

Maya was virtually unstoppable in the first half when the game was decided 18 points, hardly missed, amazing.

Yes, Simone Augustus didn't get going on her scoring spree until Kelly started guarding Maya!

Also, after three games it would appear that Kelsey Griffin is no Asjha Jones. Now Renee is
wracked up. Looks like the Sun are going to have to struggle to finish fourth.

yea. Note to Coach Donovan - you want to slow down a prolific scorer? Put Kelly in earlier!

The funny thing is that I don't think the announcers even noticed.

Kelly did a great job. She played Maya very tight and did a good job of fighting through screens.

Nobody notices Kelly until it's too late :)

No. For them, it's all about who is scoring - that's the sexy story. The intangibles are not noteworthy. I am wondering what would have happened if Donovan had put Kelly in earlier and as a result Maya's output would have been diminished, would that have become noteworthy as the night progressed?

I am surprised at how sparingly Kelly has played in their first three games...but then again I am "the biggest" Kelly fan for a reason. I am watching the game now. I think the time away in camp did hurt Kelly within the flow of the offense. That will improve over time. I have watched the first half, and so far, other than that initial three from Maya, Kelly has been all over her.

On a side note, I think the acquisition of McCarville, will be very good for Minny by the end of the year.

Question for those of you that were able to watch the game live, were you able to see Kelly's first jumper or was their technical difficulties on the live action as well.

On the replay, on the first defensive possession, Maya hits the three in Kelly's face. Kelly goes back down, gets Maya to bite on a fake then hits a jumper. The replay goes to 'technical difficulty' as Kelly is making the fake. Did anyone see this live and if so do you have the ability to upload it somewhere. I would really love to see Kelly's first 2 points in the WNBA.

Did you see the play in the 4th quarter where Hightower either got caught on a screen or switched late (I can't remember), and Tina quickly realized that she had to pop out and face guard Maya on the right wing? Maya saw the opportunity and blew right by Tina, baseline, for a very sweet swooping finger-roll (the Maya Special). A thing of beauty. And Tina's feet are not made of lead! It was just perfect timing by Maya and Tina made a slight mistake by not taking away the baseline aggressively enough and forcing Maya to the middle, into Hightower. Tina was still quick enough to ride Maya to the basket but once Maya had the step it was all over....;) ....and she exploded up to the rim...... That play showed the kind of quick recognition that Maya is starting to show more and more..... very dangerous!
