Kelly Faris Speaks

It's possible to build the whole with pieces and parts. You can score by putting it in the hole. That is where the doubt came in. Not the verbal words of Geno--those are well known. I have a condition of "fat fingering" while typing --and add letters when I shouldn't .
fat-fingers makes you add a W to hole?

fat fingers, I thought meant that you mistakenly touched the A by mistake when wanting to press the S... letters next to each other

Maybe she's just not good enough to play at the Professional level. It has nothing to do with her desire or her work ethic and everything to do with her ability. If the pros think you can play, they'll find a spot for you. If you can't play, then they won't. No one's on scholarship at the professional level, you have to produce every day. Kelly Faris just isn't good enough, that was predicted when she came out of UConn her skill set and athleticism weren't enough to keep her around. She'll keep trying until she realizes that and moves on with her life. She'll ultimately be successful in whatever she decides to do in the next phase of her life because of her attitude and work ethic.

Like you, I have been saying much the same and am at risk of becoming in the eyes of many here a Kelly hater. Most here are willing the talk about the leap from being a HS bb player to Div 1 ball, but show all kinds of blind spots when it comes to D1 to Pro. In my view of the WNBA today there isn't a team that is 'the right situation'. Where in her post Uconn career has she shown to be a stopper? I had hope that she could find life in a Chinese league- but she hasn't yet seeked in or .... Sometimes the hardest thing for an athlete at whatever level is knowing when to retire the old sneakers. It might be a process- one being screened given the constant visibility of Uconn players past and present (perhaps more then others). And I like her very much has a D1 player who found gaps on the floor to be good and at times very good. But, transferring this reality to other floors has proven impossible. As I said earlier, may be those rich Chinese teams can afford to carry a player - choach on the team/bench.

Other GMs and Coaches in the WNBA are aware of Faris' and other borderline roster players on other teams. If she's released soon enough she may have an opportunity to catch on with another team (a rebuilding team like Seattle maybe?) where she make a contribution coming off the bench.

Faris is a true Indiana basketball player. She should be on a WNBA team and can contribute her fierce energy to a team or coach who knows how to utilize her. She should stop trying to be what she is not. I'm thinking of the NBA teams who
had players like her--defenders who could come in and play tough, grab crucial rebounds, make crucial steals, harass scorers. Donovan clearly doesn't have a clue as to how to use her. I hope someone will.

Thanks MattFaris for sharing your thoughts ;)

Maybe I am at risk of being called a Kelly Faris fan, or maybe that ship has sailed, but I do believe she is good enough to play pro ball. Last I checked she was still on a WNBA roster and did compete in the WNBA last season.

Everyone wants to doubt her ability to score, and based on facts, I cannot dispute that. I can also point to Skylar (which those of you that have had discussions with me on many occasions know I hate this), but it didn't seem to hurt her offensive game by taking a year to work on marketing herself and improving her offensive game. I will also gladly recognize that her offensive game was already leaps and bounds above Kelly's, but there's no reason to believe that working on her offensive game this off-season won't help Kelly's results.

I will also gladly recognize that the current Sun roster around Kelly does not match up with her skill set. They need scorers. They are not Minnesota or Phoenix (from last year). And as far as I can tell, Donovan's current philosophy doesn't seem to mesh with anyone else's talents either.

If the day comes and she is no longer on a roster, she still will have played at least two more season in the WNBA than you and I. I don't see anyone say hand her a spot because of what she has done in the past, but if you don't think Kelly will let it go that easily, you have clearly underestimated her.

Why does she deserve a break? Because she's a UConn "Fan Favorite," because she hustle's and has a great attitude? In the PROFESSIONAL Game, you have to be able to perform, she's had her opportunities more than many and has come up short. It has nothing to do with Fans love for her. She's just not good enough and no Pro Coach or GM is going to stake their job and reputation on someone who can't play at the level their team requires. She doesn't deserve anything, she had her opportunity and maximized her talent, she's just not good enough to play PROFESSIONAL Basketball and that's just it.

Fat fingering is much like mis-speaking or mis-hearing or mis - reading. it really means I screwed up, but while typing in this case, we have a tendency to write (audible) hear as here, or visa versa or a bottomless pit as whole instead of hole--mental fat fingering??? and many other sound alike words. Read the papers, without proof readers professionals are making booo kooo errors. Believe me it gets worse with age, I can attest.

You sound almost angry at her or those of us supporting her.

We UConn fans like our players and team better than anyone else's and we don't have to be objective if we choose not to be. * * * This is a UConn board for all kinds of UConn fans, objective and non-objective alike.

I think there's a tendency for a lot of people to forget this basic premise of the Boneyard.

At times one gets to wonder if, as a Uconn WCBB fan, you have stumbled in to the wrong forum. Didn't think I'd have to defend positive words I wrote about any current or former Uconn WBB player here. Thank you for this posting.

How does one sound angry on a Message Board? I offered an opinion, just as everyone else on this Board does. I don't require agreement nor consensus. If this is a truly open forum then all opinions should be welcome, even those you don't agree with. I haven't the slightest concern who you support or don't. But your support doesn't include any entitlement for the object of that support and that is my point.

Its hard to discern that sometimes, especially when you disagree with the majority.

The SUN is not a good spot Kelly with the current coach and current roster of players.........Maybe the Liberty or Mystic's

Kelly could walk into almost any Div. I opening in the country as a defensive specialist AC. I'm sure she understands that pursuing a WNBA playing career will always be an uphill struggle for her. So I presume the fact she is pursuing it is her choice. But I have the feeling she could end up being a very good coach.

Well, believe it or not, there is more to life than basketball. She will be successful in whatever she does, coaching or otherwise. Nothing can take away what she did for us and our ardent memories of her.

Maybe she's just not good enough to play at the Professional level.
3 consecutive years now on a WNBA roster shows she is good enough.
If the pros think you can play, they'll find a spot for you.
The “pros” found a spot for her. Did I mention that is has been 3 years in a row now so the “pro” must disagree with you.
No one's on scholarship at the professional level, you have to produce every day.
She has been producing for 730 days now-she is still producing & grinding. Please take the time to wish her well.

Many others predicted that she would be successful-looks like you were incorrect.

Much of that (keep trying, success, good attitude & work ethic) has to do with her UCONN pedigree which is why we continue to cheer for her as loudly as possible.
Why does she deserve a break? Because she's a UConn "Fan Favorite," because she hustle's and has a great attitude?
Yes!!!!. So you do understand! Why are you pretending you don’t?
In the PROFESSIONAL Game, you have to be able to perform, she's had her opportunities more than many and has come up short.
You are repeating yourself but where did she come up short?
She's just not good enough and no Pro Coach or GM is going to stake their job and reputation on someone who can't play at the level their team requires.
You are repeating yourself again but “Pro coach & GM must have signed off on her Suns contracts no?
She doesn't deserve anything, she had her opportunity and maximized her talent, she's just not good enough to play PROFESSIONAL Basketball and that's just it.
She is good enough to play PROFESSIONAL Basketball in WNBA and overseas and you are dead wrong!
Join this chorus:
Kelly Faris CLAP CLAP*!
Kelly Faris CLAP CLAP!
Kelly Faris CLAP CLAP!
Kelly Faris CLAP CLAP!
*Hopefully you realize that that CLAP CLAP motion is the one you make with your hands and the words CLAP are actually not said aloud. This combination of clapping motion and chanting these words (Kelly Faris) is guaranteed to cure your affliction only if done on consecutive rainy days. Start today and hope it rains tomorrow because you need a cure badly.

Shoot!!! Shoot and hit. That will give her more minutes. At the games people scream " Shoot Kelly " and most times she doesn't. She has to take advantage of those moments and she'll be OK. It's the aggressive players that get most of the minutes. I would have thought that Kayla Peterson would have been one of the two they kept instead of Orekova. Didn't Orekova miss eight shots in one game and not hit one? There must be something better than that on the waiver wire.
