is Jurich publicly announcing that he wants out. This after foisting Louisville's ugly cousin Memphis on us. Louisville was the school pounding the table for Memphis, and now they are bailing? I can only assume Louisville has the Big 12 offer in their pocket, in which case, why make us take Memphis?

I don't believe the Georgetown quote for a minute. Or the Xavier one. The basketball schools have a contingency plan set, probably triggered on the departure of Louisville.

It provides some color to Boise's demand for a home for its other sports. Boise is setting the table to bail out if this thing goes any more sideways.
 
It's actually a pretty good take by Katz. We all want out - even the teams that aren't here yet want out. In fact, perhaps the only schools who don't want out are the hoop schools because their next home is a wasteland compared to even this cluster duck*.

If it weren't for this board, Nelson would be torturing small animals in his basement. For the sake of all God's lil creatures, just endure him.
 
I'm sorry the best part of the link is the section that says Syracuse and Pitt would have stayed if they signed the last TV deal. You know the deal the Nelson said for months the league shouldn't sign.

The irony is, as I continually point out, that the current set up is not bad for any of the members. Maybe not ideal, but certainly a situation in which anyone that wants can thrive. Instead of dealing with the situation, the Big East schools throw feces at each other.
 
I read this Katz article twice, and there is literally no new news in it. None. It is all a re-hash of the same information that everyone has known or at least speculated for a few months now.

At first, I thought that I was starting to become one of those crazy people with the aluminum foil on their heads, thinking that ESPN was deliberately trying to sabotage the Big East. Now, I don't think it. I know it! What does Katz (or Katz's employer) gain from reiterating that L'Ville and UConn wish to leave? (No $#it, Sherlock!) What do they gain by reiterating that SyraPitt may have stayed with the old deal (the one that Pitt's very own Nordenberg was reported to have helped shoot down)? And what do they gain by saying that the competition for the tv rights between the other stations and ESPN will likely lead to a price tag that is lower than the other five BCS conferences? (Is it to insure that it does?)

I'm sorry for the "Mel Gibson-like conspiracy theory" crap, but enough is enough already!
 
The BE could have gotten $20 million a year and Pitt and Cuse still would have left. Syracuse will agree to play all home games on Tuesdays if that's what it takes. Wait until the "home" games at MSG vs. Duke.

This! I saw this article linked on the RU board and didn't bother bringing it back here because its all old news. For all we know the schools signed a blood pact with the condition the Marinatto be sent packing. Not likely, but again there was nothing in there worth noting.
 
It may not be "news" to us, but to the non-lunatic fringe of our society - and that's the vast majority who don't really care all that much about the Big East or college football in general - there may be a glance or two of reading material in there . . .
 
Nelson, get a grip - I'm beginning to wonder about you.

The concepts of trust, respect and loyalty and working toward a common goal was on by several long time members of the big east conference a little over 6 mnths ago. The big east nearly collapsed because of it.

John Marinatto offcially resigned on Monday, and was replaced - immediately, by an interim exec from outsided the big east, that you just don't pick up off the street with a phone call. THe big east presidents have a meeting next week, the BCS meeting just concluded.....Marinatto's not the kind of guy that will shaft the league at this point in time. Period.

Monday morning, I found out about right here on this website. News reports came out all over the place that marinatto had been pushed out that membership was unhappy, blah blah.

late monday night, a little AP report came out of Hartford, co-authored by a long time Courant reporter, (idn't recognize the other name) that quote:

Connecticut President Susan Herbst was asked if the league's presidents had sought Marinatto's resignation.

"It was entirely John's decision," she said in an email to The Associated Press. "Let me add: He did a stellar job this past year, enabling the Big East to move forward. We are strong now, thanks to his efforts and tireless work in a very fluid environment."

Not one singe major news agency that had been reporting on the thing, picked it up. A direct quote from a university president, contradicting everything that had been reported, never mind ESPN

The interim commissioner was interviewed last night, and the story was buried in ESPN headlines, but was in the USA Today and he talks about complete solidarity in he league, but even the USA today is reporting that presidents pressured Marinatto out and ignored that little report out of Hartford. ESPN Katz comes out with this today. No direct quotes from anybody in there.


So - eihter our president is lying, and I doubt it. She's not the type to do that.

Or the presidents have known this was happening for awhile,and were ocmpleely prepared for it, which falls right in line with everything that's happened.

#1. If you've read anythng about how the university of memphis was added to the big east, information, and trust with information is the most important thing forthe big east moving forward. THere were no more than 4 or 5 people that knew anything about Memphis.

#2. The big east has information leaks. had a mole (s).

I've been around the block a few times, been involved in all kinds of . When I got floored by this news on Monday,and then read the quote above Monday night from Herbst?

THe big east just cleaned out the moles.

Don't trust anything you're reading from any news source, especially ESPN, about the inner workings of the big east, until a new media deal is completed, and thatwill be many months.... unless you can find a direct quote referenced from an actual big east president. the athletic directors don't even know what's going on.

THe story that Marinatto was pushed out is being carried by the major news reporting agencies, and that's fine. The toilet flush has done it's job.

People - keep in mind that among the meetings of the presidents of this league since January, has been an Admiral from the United States Navy that has been involved the business of command and leadership of entire aircraft carrier strike groups in combat, and information transfer and use that has involved life and death of hundreds and thousands of people, and has sat in the White House of the United States as security chief during time of war.

Or, the truth is somewhere in between. It could have very well been suggested to Marinatto that he leave. Technically, he did resign of his own free will. So Herbst may be spinning slightly to project solidarity. Which I have no problem with.
 
CTMike - Sir Walter Scott, not shakespeare - my UConn education. WHat a tangled web you weave, when at first you begin to deceive. Don't remember the actual quote, but do remember that it wasn't Shakespeare.

The difficulty in maintaining the deceptions, spinning, as you say, that Herbst opened herself up to, for an organization the size of the Big East is incredibly difficult to maintain.

We have a group of what 18 presidents now, that have among them the Vice Admiral Mike Miller. This is a man who knows a little bit about the importance of things like a chain of command, and flow of information, and secrecy.......not when it comes to billion dollar television deals.....but when it comes to things like leading an aircraft carrier strike group into battle, or gathering information to counsel the commander in chief of the entire U.S. military during time of war.....


Those are facts. My opinion, is that there' s nothing happening right now around the big east, that isn't entirely calculated, and everybody that's been in those rooms knows exactly what's at stake, and how information is going to flow, and to who, and when.

Herbst stated that the decision was all John's.
That's a pretty vague comment, one that could be said with a clean conscience. People are given 'choices' all the time. Either resign or we'll fire you. You're choice.
I am pretty confident that John was pushed out. I think the decision was to do this as quickly and cleanly as possible, and I really think they gave him the opportunity to resign. Not every break-up needs to end in a public spectacle (see WVU's strategy)...
And I would think it more reassuring to know the presidents proactively made this move rather than get caught by surprise. It could suggest there is a plan being played out to get this league stabilized, aligned, and focused on getting the best pay-day they can.
I think there is a direct correlation between ESPN's involvement in directing re-alignment and how soon before the contract is signed that a BE school is poached to join the ACC or Big12. If UofL announces something in the next couple weeks, not too much influence from ESPN (no more than usual). UofL announces in August they are leaving, I think you need to investigate for tampering.
