I’ve been around long enough to remember the red-headed firecracker that played for Georgetown. Katie and Sugar Rodgers are two of the best players to play for the Hoyas

There’s a Husky on the list too: Peggy (Walsh) Meyers

 
Anyone know what the qualifications are for this? Because it feels like there should be a lot more huskies on that list.

I was sitting near her at MSG on Sunday and she was unfailingly appreciative to all the fans that came over to speak with her including a young fan with a handmade UConn banner......the highlight was watching her use a marking pen to draw UCONN on a bald man's head before the game......very expertly done by the way.....
 
Kudos to Katie, she and the whole Fudd “entourage” will be sorely missed.

Another player with Connecticut connections being honored is Tracy Lis, who played at Killingly and then at Providence.

Over 3,600 points in high school and over 2,500 points for Providence from 1988-1992. I think it is still the Connecticut high school record.

I saw her play once for Killingly, might have been a State tournament game, it was at Central Connecticut. She was the real deal, scored over 40 that night. Deadly shooter with range.

Another name on the women's list that caught my eye is Tracy Lis who was probably one of the best CT high school players of her generation (mid to late 80s) when she played for Killingly HS. This is when UConn was still a Big East bottom feeder and couldn't even get the best players in their own small state to come to UConn let alone the top in the region or country.

So she went to Providence, which was much better program than UConn at the time, and was still close to home. She had a heck of a career there and graduated being their all-time leading scorer. I recall she would light UConn up just about every time they played as well.

Being able to land CT HS product Nykesha Sales a few years later was a big deal at the time for UConn because in the past they would lose players like her (a la Tracy Lis) to the more established programs.

Anyway, congrats again to Ms. Fudd and wasn't trying to change the subject. But the name Tracy Lis brought back memories of the days of when the top players in CT HS basketball (men and women) would go to others schools outside of CT and fans of the UConn programs would be like "why can't UConn even get the good players from their own state?".

Congrats to Katie Fudd, but I believe the best player to come out of Georgetown was Rebekka Brunson.

UConn was not a BE bottom feeder. Geno’s first season was his only losing record. So Geno was already at UConn and UConn went to the Final Four in 89-90. That was Lis’s sophomore year. The BE was not great by any stretch but UConn and PC were at the top. One or the other was able to crack into the top 25 poll now and then once Geno got a few years in.

Anyone who saw Lis says she was a great scorer which you can’t deny based on her stats. However, and this is what I heard which could be true or sour grapes or whatever but Lis, although recruited by UConn wasn’t really a Geno type player. She didn’t fit in the culture he was building.

Edit: I’m rethinking this a little. When Lis was recruited UConn was definitely improving but no one could know what the program would achieve. So, I’ll give a little in saying that PC was considered the more established program while Lis was deciding while UConn was showing real promise. “Bottom feeder” was way too harsh though.
