I think the only question is how much of the NIL budget does he get.I was all about giving Alex time bit this has gotten ridiculous.
If he declared then prob zero as we can’t wait for him to decide if he wants to stay in or withdrawI think the only question is how much of the NIL budget does he get.
Obviously a choice has been made but the whole way this thing has played out has been a bit odd. Has UConn really even been linked to other players? I know Miller, but it’s been really quiet on the portal front.I was all about giving Alex time bit this has gotten ridiculous.
I really doubt it that.tttI think the only question is how much of the NIL budget does he get.
Yeah, real knee slapper. The most hilarious outcome of this is if Karaban decided like 2 weeks ago and just hasn’t publicly announced anything
Nobody knows lolHe declared or he didn’t? If he declared we should expect some pretty quick movement on his replacement, right?
It's odd. This whole thing is odd. 5 years ago this doesn't happen. We can't always blame the refs with a straight face but here I can blame NIL and the portal. We are operating within a broken system.Obviously a choice has been made but the whole way this thing has played out has been a bit odd. Has UConn really even been linked to other players? The lack of communication about a decision either way suggests to me he declared but is still negotiating NIL. That’s his leverage. He declared or he didn’t? If he declared we should expect some pretty quick movement on his replacement, right?
Well, to be fair that was only a deadline to declare for the draft, which Alex did not need to do given that he is graduating. Basically, The Boneyard adopted that deadline as the dropdead date, but in truth, it is not and never was. The real dropdead date is the withdrawal date which I think is in the end of June.Maybe Alex needs to get a Master's in Deadlines.
The thing is that the way he had been talking was as though he didn't want to prolong it again past this deadline. So everyone was expecting some kind of finality. If I understand correctly AK could put his name in and still withdraw by June 15th, right? I assume this is what he did but just with no announcement.
Announcement isn’t really needed until June 15th - because he still has options. The announcing your declaration to enter the draft is therefore kind of meaningless, right?
Did he put his name in though? That itself is news and the media will find out soon if so.If I understand correctly AK could put his name in and still withdraw by June 15th, right? I assume this is what he did but just with no announcement.

Concur, AK’s leverage is with UConn, but that means that if the parties are still negotiating, then there is likely a path to him staying. What would be the purpose of ongoing NIL negotiations as a second rounder? It’s not as though continuing to negotiate with UConn would give him any leverage with NBA teams. The lack of communication about a decision either way suggests to me he declared but is still negotiating NIL. That’s his leverage.
At some point Dan Hurley needs to say take it or leave it so we aren’t caught without a legit 4. This can’t drag out like last year
He still has eligibility tho, so doesn’t he still have to declare? If he doesn’t technically need to declare, then he just needs to make a decision and move forward. We’re not waiting until June to see what he decides. Make a decision and live with it. We’ve got championship aspirations, need to know how to move forward with this roster.Well, to be fair that was only a deadline to declare for the draft, which Alex did not need to do given that he is graduating. No Clear Answers Yet for Alex Karaban’s UConn Future as CBS Sports’ Polarized NBA Draft Stance Triggers Bold Demand for Dan Hurley
With 2025 NBA drafts inching closer with each passing day, will HC Dan Hurley lose this key UConn performer or retain him next season?l.smartnews.com
Thank goodness we now have clarity on this.
I read somewhere that the official early entry list is to be released next week. So, in theory, this could go on another week unless someone in-the-know reports on the decision.Did he put his name in though? That itself is news and the media will find out soon if so.
That is an interesting take but I am not so sure on this one. Alex would need to draft a thoughtful post for either decision. A simple “I’m Back” might not do it 2 years in a row.I have a feeling he's leaving for the NBA. If he was staying, it would've been easy to put out a post like he did last year. If he's leaving, he's probably struggling with the good-bye statement he wants to make about how much being at UConn has meant to him. Alex is a perfectionist and would want to get that right.
I hope I'm wrong.
NOW(!!!) he has immigration concerns?
