Karaban still weighing decision whether to return or go pro

Alex has earned the right to take as much time as he needs. As long as the staff is cool with it and they have a plan that won't get ruined then all good. I would like to know if he is waiting on more information or is he just struggling with a decision. My advice to Alex from someone with more years behind them than in front of them is that sometimes in life there is not 100% clarity on a major decision. Sometimes after gathering all the infornation and weighing it carefully you just have to take a leap and give it all you got and live with the consequences both good and bad. I'm sure he has weighed all the pros and cons a hundred times but if he is waiting on some major epiphany to tell him what to do then he will most likely be waiting forever. He also has to be honest with himself as to why he is struggling so much. That reason can sometimes be a guide in making the best decision for yourself.

I think, pure speculation, that since he hasn't announced yet, he's not entering the draft

Then again, I believe he's automatically eligible for the draft so he doesn't have to announce. I think he has until 60 days before the draft to announce he's going back to school.

So his deadline may not be April 27th

I'm confused

As Hurley assembles this new team the question on everyone’s mind is if Alex leaves what are the chances that whoever we get to take his slot will give us 80-100% of his effectiveness? Is that even possible? Who out there is still left on the board to do that at this point? List? More names come off that list every day.
Not too worried about Alex because with his intellect he’s going to be highly successful in a basketball career as a player or coach and this is not a matter of putting pressure on him.

St. John’s our main rival now in the BE has reloaded big time but I don’t look at those rankings a think we are listed one above them in the rankings. That’s crazy.
Ideally we want him back but his slot on the floor is a key piece and even in a shooting slump he gives the team the best chance to repeat.
How does the staff at this point even talk to a possible replacement? What do they tell them? We don’t know your PT?

More than likely he is going to test the draft and retain eligibility. He flew to Chicago for both the NBA2025 and his agents. I think they have him between 44-50 and UConn has been "in touch" with some power forwards in the portal. We will probably hear more in a day or two.

Alex needs to do what he has to do as well as the coaches have to do what they need to do. They are as much inclusive of each other as they are exclusive,
I am sure both parties have spoken a lot involving numerous scenarios and there is a general understanding.
My gut says the longer he takes, the better the chances he is looking at returning. If not, the coaches would have likely already snatched a replacement in the portal. Anyone in the portal can't sit and wait until UConn decides to pull the trigger - it could cost the player and the team more money - isn't money now the driving force in college sports?

It’s a nice sentiment but We’re already at the point where Unless we get Williams or Miller then Alex taking too much time left staff scrambling and ruined the plan to get a replacement PF. If Miller had entered with a “do not contact” tag because he was coming here then yes staff had an ace up their sleeves the whole time and it all worked out perfectly as planned but that doesn’t appear to be the case. So now if we do somehow land Miller it would be despite Alex taking his time by getting lucky that a last minute entrant just happens to fit perfectly, and the staff pulling off a Hail Mary at the buzzer.

Well that is why I stated the caveat "as long as the staff has a plan and it doesn't get ruined."

Is it fair to put staff in a position where they have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to replace you? No it’s not which is why I’m cautiously optimistic Alex stays.

He people are talking to people, he's probably working out with other guys. Facts may not change but opinions can.

He'll decide when he has enough info. We can wait.

My biggest concern is the Knicks losing to the Pistons, Thibs getting punted, Hurley sick of all this and taking that job.
Wait till he takes over and gets the gig. He'll be sick of the Knicks and ownership faster than he gets pissed at the refs.

Alex and Hurley are so tight, I'd be flabbergasted if Hurley doesn't know what he's doing at this point.
Of course Hurley would know but the worry is that Alex still doesn’t know what he’s going to do. He has two options: either declare for the draft or announce he’s returning. The fact he hasn’t done one or the other yet implies he hasn’t decided.

Unless they already know the rabbit is in the hat and waiting...

AK is being shown a ton of grace from the fanbase because he was a member of back to back. Jaylin, Solo, and Tarris all made their decisions weeks ago. I don't believe any of them would he shown this kind of grace if they were holding out like this and the staff couldn't complete the roster.

Let's all just hope this doesn't cost us a legit starting power forward and a chance at preseason #1 and a team poised for a title run.

He has until 26th to declare.

Not sure what is going to change between now and then. I’m assuming by now his agent has been in touch with any nba team that had expressed interest either this year or last.

I can understand taking a few weeks after the season, but dragging this out to the last minute is getting farcical imo.

You have the facts, nothing is going to change before the deadline. Make a decision and live with it.

if the rabbit was already in the hat miller would have entered the portal with a “do not contact” tag. Staff still has to work some magic.

You can’t be drafted unless you enter your name in the draft otherwise the jazz or whoever would select Flagg with the first pick even if he was returning for his sophomore year lol

If you’ve exhausted your college eligibility do you still need to officially enter the draft or are you automatically eligible to be drafted? Not sure how that works even after a Google search.

There’s a point at which Alex’s indecision will affect UConn’s ability to replace him and we’re probably pretty close to that point.

If a kid can put pen to paper at another school and we’re still telling him to hold on, that will be a problem and we’re there with a couple of recruits.
