Karaban still weighing decision whether to return or go pro

"Now confirmed. One way or the other, he's all in."

Covers all the bases. Brilliant. Insightful reporting. Love this guy and will follow him if only for the unintended comedic value. Holy brings nothing to the table batman.
This is what I don’t understand, and I know this is the joke that I’m trying to bring back to a serious level, but is he “all in” the draft or the program? Or is the answer “yes” to both those questions?

I can’t believe how many randoms are out there these days. The Horde is down to 2. And I don’t know how long the Hartford Courant has left as a going concern. News industry has absolutely crumbled as a big revenue generator. I am talking CBS News and 60 Minutes (check out Pelley this week) to the Farmington Valley News going under.

Journalism is so bad now.
+1, Welcome to the digital age. I saw this coming 20 years ago since I was in the music/entertainment business. In music the artist and their "product" was controlled by format, from Vinyl to tape to Cd's. Now in the digital world music is "a free for all ". ( I used to own record store too, remember them, LOL! )

Once the press (literally) lost control of thier product ( the news/ info/ narrative), as advertising no longer funded newspapers, the new age of digital takes over and anyone with the internet (right or wrong) has a say, which gives us the age of the Big 12 and AK experts, etc !

Per Mark Zanetto I’ve just confirmed that Alex Karaban won’t be playing in BOTH the NBA and UConn next year. Rumor is he’s going to pick one or the other, but not both.
Yeah I heard that too. I also heard he won’t be joing the broadway cast of Cabaret.

Well….Day…what Day are we in of Alex watch?

They all say that until the day they withdraw.

This list says he'll be just testing the waters and then going back to college. Who knows how accurate this list is. It's probably just their best guess.

This source indicates that the next relevant deadline is May 28th. Of more importance, though, Alex isn’t listed in ANY of the appropriate categories, including “expected to remain in draft” and “testing the waters”!

^^^^ this. The 24 hour news cycle destroyed this industry. Paper lost first, but even tv news is pathetic. Half hour of national news is about 12 minutes of commercials, 5 minutes of weather, 5 minutes of puff, and maybe a headline or two, with almost always a bothsides. Just looking for the truth has never been harder.

My wish is Alex experiences all the success and fulfillment no matter what his decision is. He's a great guy, hard worker and ambassador for UConn basketball.

With that said, all the waiting and start and stops with his decision and announcement of, has sucked the excitement, mystery and enjoyment out of it.

UConn hoops is entertainment; watching games, seeing players develop, recruiting high school and international kids, now the portal...I'm not sure if that's more angst than entertainment...and start of the preseason, etc. So even the time between the end and start of the season can be entertaining.

It's unfortunate that the Karaban decision has IMO, flamed, sparked and fizzled out the way it did. It took away some Portal attention where we'd be getting more reports on what backups 5 or 4/5 combo they're after.

For me, and I assume any others here, it has turned into a let's just get over with it and move on.

I remember ... what's up!?

I just went through the car wash which I am a monthly member and for the first time ever while I was in the middle of the rinse the whole wash stopped. Silence for a few seconds and no movement and suddenly a voice came through the power unit to the left saying “I am not sure what I’m going to do”….i thought it was Alex but no it was the car wash mechanic.

I was just responding to the other poster’s post. I never point out grammatical errors on here. Just thought it was kind of funny. Hope you’re feeling better. No ill will intended. You sound a little cranky if that bothered you. Which I guess is understandable considering your circumstances.
I overacted and I’m incredibly miserable and can’t sleep even though i’m heavily medicated ( not really helping much). We’re all good. Sorry for the snarky response, seriously.

Well Dave Borges cleared up all the confusion. Alex is either entering the NBA Draft and not coming back or staying at UConn for another season. And the decision could come today. Or maybe not.

Alternate access:

Will Alex Karaban return to UConn men's basketball or enter the NBA Draft? Decision could come today.

I just read 4 pages of this thread. Many of us need real therapy...

Whatever Alex does, he's all in. When he gets the mail from the mailbox, he gives everything to it.

Thats some deep analysis by Borges. I’m annoyed by the duration of all of this, but big picture we either bring back a three year starter or I’m extremely confident we bring in a starting level 4 to replace him. Win-win.

All part of the story

But also, newspapers have been strangled to near death by big tech.

I don’t even understand what the point of writing that is. Props to the staff & Alex tho, no leaks at all, it’s like Fort Knox. All for something that doesn’t seem like it needs to be some big secret.

This is taking longer than figuring out who shot Mr. Burns (or JR if you liked that show). Not my thing.

It's understandable that Zanetto wrote what he wrote but Borges does have quite a bit of credibility as a journalist but just embarrassed himself.

Basically each demonstrated that they read something that was made public weeks ago, that AK will either enter the draft without considering the possibility of returning or he will remain for his final (unless the NCAA adds even more stupidity) year of eligibility.

We've known this for three weeks. I can see Zanetto not picking it up until now and then attempting to pass it off as breaking news but I expected a lot better from Borges.
