Kansas Post Game Thread

One of best UConn road wins, considering:
A. We never beat Kansa, they had had our number
B. Winning as Kansas is one of the toughest places to win
C. Kansas a great program with a great coach and great talent
Make no mistake, as sweet a win as it gets, even if not the most elegant game. This is a team we have never beaten, in their house, it being one of the two most historic joints in the land. Great for the resume as well.

That's just wrong. Liam was hurt most of his one season here. You don't have to blow out Liam's candle to make Mullins candle shine brighter. Mullins looks like he may be one on the best freshman we have had. But why piss on McNelley?
100%. McNeeley was asked to carry the offense. Mullins is put in a much better situation where he's not the sole focal point for the defense. Also, let's not forget McNeeley's superhuman performance at Creighton where he scored 38 and we won at Omaha for the first time ever.

This is not to disparage Mullins in the slightest. Loved what he brought today and think he's going to be huge for us this year.

Clingan was a force of nature on the defensive end, and a major threat in the pick and roll as a rim runner/lob threat. Reibe has post moves and footwork that Clingan still lacks.
Yeah anyone comparing Reibe to Clingan needs to go watch the Illinois NCAA game again. Clingan singlehandedly shut down an entire teams offense

Yep, they're basically polar opposites as centers. Both better than we could've ever expected as freshmen.

if Silas can become the player we expected, then watch out.

really hoping he can gain confidence during our conference schedule. that talent is there so just seems mental at this point.
My God, he started in the SEC last year. There’s only one ball to go around. He’ll be fine. We’ve seen enough of what he is capable of already. Really couldn’t say that about Mahaney or Nowell.

Reibe is so solid and even here, not sure he is getting the attention he deserves.

He was so so solid tonight. He made it tough for Kansas to come inside, ripped down lots of rebounds, and made most his shots.

The homer TV announcers were to wrapped up about talking about the missing Kansas player (not ours) that they missed some nice talking points on development of players like Reibe - who were growing up b4 our eyes.

Without Reibe's presence we would have lost that game tonight.
They did say at least 3 times how Hurley told them Reibe has saved our early season.

I think Stewart will get his minutes by giving Alex a break maybe Danny can get Alex down to 33-34 minutes a game. Other than that I don’t see where Stewart helps us on the court. He is a 4 who can shoot and he can rebound.

But Ross has too many other skills. Once healthy I see a rotation of

Demary/Smith less time playing together with Mullins healthy.
Ball/Ross/Mullins will play the 2 when Ross is in the game
Mullins/Ross
Alex/ Stewart
Reed/ Reibe.

That is a nine man rotation don’t think it gets bigger than that. But Stewart is going to get his chances when breaking Alex.
In games that matter, Hurley is not taking AK off the floor much. He's the floor captain and I just don't think Hurley likes him not out there. I can see there being plenty of time to give in the BE as we run through those cupcakes and checking Alex down to the 30-32 mpg to keep him fresh for March.

The Mullins/Ross roster was really effective as it gives us a really nice defensive unit, and size.

That’s the 5th time we played Kansas. We’re now 1 win and 4 losses. Of the 5 games played, how many were played in Kansas?
Someone probably already answered but 3. 2 at Allen Fieldhouse and 1 in Kansas City (Kemper Arena, I think). Then 1 in the NCAA Tournament and 1 in Hartford.

hurley got a good minutes problem developing. already been 100+ comments on freshman . point guards didn’t play well but silas made a HUGE play late. key stretch of game was when alex ran off 7 str8 when game was about to get away . he just makes big plays

I just don't know what you do with the kid - Alex plays a lot of minutes. We will have plenty at the 3 with Mullins there and Stew is not a 3, at all. If he did something super well where if we were short on it we could look to him, then I'd say let's bring him in. He feels like odd man out. I literally have no idea what he is other than a breather for AK.
For one, it wouldn't hurt to give Alex a few more breathers - but also instead of trying to go small and have AK play the 5, let JS take that role neither is a great option but at least we can save a foul or two from Alex.

sports-reference hasn't updated yet, but the team with the best undefeated record against us is now officially... Niagara

Hurley, get on the phone with the Purple Eagles, stat.

Karaban drives me crazy with those 30 foot shoots. But when he finally hit one and brought us to within three. It did change the game.

Fromm that point on he was brilliant.
That one took the air out of the building for a few minutes. If they had made a run off a miss there, it might have been a knockout blow. Huge shot.

He was a major difference maker the last 12 minutes. I feel like he picked his spots better with the drives to the basket tonight as well.

Even during our last possession, he made the right play, passing up an OK shot that ended up with Demary having an open 6 footer. Even though the shot was missed, it was really good offense.

Karaban and Solo are really going to benefit when Tarris and Mullins are starting. They'll get a lot more open shots. It's going to be pick your poison.
