Big time win, Reibe is much better than advertised and already playing like a veteran. Mullins is going to be special. He still has some rust he’s shaking off but I haven’t felt this way about a freshman since Jordan Hawkins made his UConn debut

He’s a better player than Hawkins and easily too. Can’t wait until that first 7 of 9 night from 3 from this young man because it’s coming.

Totally agree - he’s making smart plays too.

I honestly don’t know where we need Stew once Mullins starts. He legit brings nothing we need as I’m yet to understand what he’s good at.

This is ridiculous in all reality. He and Ross offer solid bench like minutes, work hard, rebound and play D pretty well. These are players needed in a system and Stew has done a nice job and Ross as well. Saying he brings nothing is just strange.

I feel bad saying this because of his loyalty, but Stew needs to be like the 9th man once Reed comes back. Reibe, Smith, and Ross all ahead of him. 5-10 min backing up AK, maybe 5 backing up Mullins after Ross.
I get a kick out of the Hurley-like admiration of Ross vs Stew. Neither are consistent nor has either distanced himself from the other. Just 2 solid bench pieces who aren’t consistent enough to be a starter, neither of them. But nice pieces.

This is it. Our eighth and ninth guys (in whatever order) play like eighth and ninth guys. If we needed them to play like starters, it’d be a problem. But saying either is worthless is just as wrong

Oh come on...its not replicating, but the imagining when you're 12 years old in your driveway..... "the kids at the line. Game is in his hands. Crowd is screaming" can he handle the pressure..."
I understood what he was going for, I just thought it was ineloquent.

Silas needs to be getting it the line 3-4x minimum per game. It really does feel like Newton’s first year at this time. Silas in March will be a much different and improved player. Zero concern, but he needs to turn up the aggressiveness.

The complaint is he was horrendous and has made some head scratchingly bad plays even in his good games. The same way you can praise him for being good in games we as fans can call him on playing terrible and he was terrible in a big game. A bad game like that can derail the season. Thats the complaint.
You clearly exist in some kind of alternate universe.

How is he sneaky athletic? His athleticism should jump out to everyone right away when they watch him play.

Because at first glance, he looks overly skinny, weak, and like he's 11 years old. Then he crushes you with his first step and elevates. That makes him sneaky in my book. You just don't think he's as quick or athletic as he looks.

I dont know about Clingan-lite. I feel like Reibe is playing better than clingan as a freshman. More minutes, sure. But he just posted 12 and 8 (and good rebounds) at Kansas... in his 6th game
I think you forget who won the MVP award at PKI 2022 in the 6th, 7th and 8th games of his freshman season.

One play by Solo makes me scratch my head. On this fast break Solo and Mullins were running to the hoop with Mullins ahead of Solo. So much so that Solo should have dished to the leading Mullins. Instead of passing ahead to Mullins, Solo drove a bit out of control to the hoop, shot the ball, missed, and thankfully Mullins got the rebound and made the layup. Why did Solo choose to drive and shoot vs passing ahead to Mullins for the easy layup?

Well stated and very true

The drive he had to the basket was the most impressive play I saw from him. The inbounds play was designed to get him the ball back for a quick 3, Kansas defended it well, so he looked off the defender, drove to the basket, faked the help D out of the play, and then got Tiller flat footed and was able to use the rim to remove any shot he had to contest. It was so much BBIQ, skill, and athleticism wrapped into one play.a

@HW611 This may be what you were referring to with Solo looking off Mullins......

One of the announcers called him out on it. Given that he has a ways to go with his passing skills I was happy he didn't make the pass especially at the speed he was running.

Speaking of passing we went from one of the best passing teams with the 24 team to one of the worst passing teams in 25. We had an incredible weapon in Samson with the pick and roll but no one to get the throw to him. Samson was a lot better than what we saw with Bidunga but we were unable to take advantage of it last season.

I remember thinking, “HIT HIM, YOU **********!!!!” (funny Calhoun quote) but then I watched the replay and saw one dribble that looked a bit out of control, and imagined maybe he was about to push pass, but mishandled it and ultimately had to just grab hold of the ball, by which time he had missed the opportunity to feed Mullins for a bucket any easier than his own drive (all occurring in a fraction of a second). No idea if that’s what actually happened, but it’s possible.

Not sure what you are talking about. We've assisted on 63 or 64% of our field goals for the last three seasons. The assist to turnover ration was down a bit last year, as was the average number of assists per game, by 1. That hardly makes them anything close to one of the worst passing teams.

It was his Phil Nolan moment...
