2027 Recruiting: Kaleena Smith

I was in the stands for the Jan. 2 game...They play Carondelet, who were CA state champs in Div. 1 last year (That's the 2nd-highest division; the Open division is the top level). Needless to say, Carondelet is an excellent team.... But Kaleena and supersoph Tatiana Griffin made them look downright silly. 100-49 final score.

Really impressed with Kaleena’s game!
I would love to see her as a Husky!
She's going to make one head coach very, very happy.........sadly, based on NIL and other factors, I tend to doubt it will be Geno.........

You are right on the NIlL. She has signed a shoe deal with Adidas hasn’t she or maybe I’m thinking of someone else.

Some superstars coming out of high school can be brought into an existing program and find a place within it… even if they end up leading it. Like Paige. Kids like this come along almost every year. Like Saniyah Hall and Jazzy Davidson and Sarah Strong Azzi Fudd and Joyce Edwards. Others cannot be fit into an existing program and have to have it redesigned around them. Like Juju or Hannah or Angel. Sometimes this works out pretty well, though mostly it doesn’t. Sometimes the team implodes and recruits flee within a year of their arrival.

I can’t tell which kind Kaleena is. She is a tremendous talent and she passes well. The passing suggests she can fit herself in. But exactly how ball-dominant does she need to be? This is an open question. If she’s spoken to Geno, I’m sure he’s mentioned this to her. Either this seals the deal or it sinks it.

I would have thought she would end up at an Adidas school but I'm not sure if any of her final choices are Adidas sponsored.......mostly Nike from what I remember......she is somewhat ball-dominant right now but who can blame her.....I'd think she could easily blend in with other talented players but whether she wants the Geno treatment is open to question.......I envision her choosing an SEC or Big Ten team rather than UConn but as many veteran Boneyarders know, my record of choosing UConn recruits is astonishingly poor and that's a good thing.....

No finalists yet, but she’s visited Louisville (Adidas). Jeff has done a great job with small guards. While she’d be a great get for them, I’m still holding out on hope that she’s a Husky.

Yes, I think Louisville, NC State and Michigan are three of the biggest Adidas schools and I believe Tennessee is switching from Nike to Adidas too........I don't know what the rules are in her contract regarding attending a Nike school.......

Michigan is a Nike school. They left Adidas in 2016.

She's also been to Syracuse and Cal.

Will attend the LSU-South Carolina game on Saturday.

Yup, which are both Nike schools (a silver lining). I was just noting the Adidas school(s) that she’s visited so far.
