I don't think UCONN's WBB program could have shown any better than in it's performance against Seton Hall. So far so good.

An interesting historical quirk: when I was growing up there was a firm on Wall Street called Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Bean. At some point they changed the name to Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Smith.

If I were a recruit witnessing that beatdown and I knew that Seton Hall was one of the better teams in the Big East, I might be a bit concerned about the lack of competition within the conference .......playing just five or six tough non-conference games during the season isn't that enticing to some kids....

But that’s just you. Fortunately the majority of top recruits don’t prioritize a team’s schedule and that’s why UConn keeps getting them. Top players care about PT, winning games, and being prepared to be a pro. And of course now NIL is a big factor for some and that’s why they wind up elsewhere. ;)
 
Uconn and their broadcasters are not allowed to talk about HS recruits. So expecting anything from them is not happening.

With the expansion of the major conferences the actual conference schedule is generally so diluted with mediocre teams that it is no longer anything like the conference schedule in the old BE or the old SEC - home and homes are a thing of the past so even though Uconn plays in the 'weak' BE, their SOS remains in the top 1-5 generally of all teams.

I agree with those who feel conference doesn't matter as much as the quality and visibility of the individual team. There are two sorts of players: team first or me first. (Clearly many fall into some sort of sliding scale between the two, but it's usually weighted one way or the other.) The team first players will go for any program that gives them playing time so they can contribute and the ability to win within whatever conference they're in. That doesn't necessarily mean a championship; some kids end up in mid-level programs because they're mid-level players and it's the best fit. They just want to be in a program that's competitive. The top players obviously are searching for a national-championship level team, and those are scattered about the country. No matter the level, a high level of importance is placed on being comfortable in the location of the school, the school facilities (and that's beyond athletic facilities, there are a lot of really smart kids playing sports) and of course team chemistry. Also falling into this category are those players who are really in it for the education, and the athletic scholarship is their vehicle.

Very true but players have almost that same guarantee at South Carolina, LSU and now UICLA and USC with Texas and Notre Dame thrown in......

If I were a recruit, I would have been very impressed by how well we played. Best I’ve seen in a few years.

If the broadcasters are employees of UConn, no, they can’t talk about them but SNY can.

Nah, these recruits are smart enough to look at the strength in UConn’s OOC schedule.

I went to an AAU tournament some years ago and sat in front of a group of players that were trying to remember which team won the last National Championship. Some of you guys are attributing the teenagers that are being recruited with too much adult analysis. The things that we adults might consider important aren’t even a passing thought to the kids.

Today's recruits are pretty savvy and so are their "advisors"......they know what they are looking for in a program, although judging by the number of transfers these days they don't always make the right decisions......

that's simply not going to happen......only UConn can consistently attract top recruits to play in the Big East......

The key word I used is consistently........do you think any Big East team other than UConn and hopefully at some point Creighton will be ranked as a Top 20 team in this decade? I'd place a fairly large wager that the answer is no.........we went through this same charade in the AAC........these teams take one step forward and two steps back and are never able to turn the corner to become competitive nationally........UConn will always thrive under Geno from a recruiting standpoint but the competition for high-end talent has never been more competitive and a feeble Big East doesn't help the cause......

Do people WANT the Big East to be bad? I see stuff like the above and it sound like you’ve decided the Big East is not just bad, it will always be bad, now and forever with no chance to improve

Maybe folks should go to the Conference Realignment board and wallow in their misery there

I'm simply a realist..........as much as I'd love to see the Big East flourish as it once did, I have little confidence that will happen........:(

I think the big issue is NIL. After years of trying to work toward some kind of parity in NCAA CBB the NIL money is really going to narrow the field again. Time will tell.
