Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis | The Boneyard

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis

My all-time favorite Husky! I remember watching one of those behind-the-scenes programs about 10 years ago where she was joking about Gabi and Napheesa singing Beyonce songs. And then Kaleena deadpanned, "Beyonce has nothing to worry about". You can't go wrong with a great sense of humor to go along with immense talent!

Many differences between KLM and Azzi. Azzi much quicker release, better handle, ability to drive/pullup. defense, passing. KLM was basically an excellent three point shooter. Azzi is an all-around first team All-American. Husky of Honor coming up.

That wasn’t even true for the high school version of KML. She’s always had a gorgeous middy and Geno had her driving to the hoop frequently. KML was the #1 kid out of high school and they don’t list one dimensional players as the best in the country

There are lots of UConn games with KML on YouTube you could watch to refresh your memory

not even close.

Azzi and Kaleena are similar but different. I saw KML in high school, where she was surprisingly the point person in Mater Dei's full-court press. She has possibly the best hands I've ever seen. If she touched the ball on defense, it was an interception. She single-handedly beat Berkeley in the state championship game. She also got us the last several buckets against ND in the close NCAA finals when Stewie got hurt. Note where KML shoots from--she almost always has her toes near the line. In 2 separate All-American seasons, Kaleena was 1 missed FT from a 50/40/90 shooting season.

Azzi is more athletic and a better overall defender. Her 3-pointers often come from deeper--not logo threes, but 3-5 feet past the arc. Statistically, Azzi is a little better FT shooter, and Kaleena is a little better from 3-point range. Before Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, Kaleena had the career 3-point record. She also had 3 more championships than Caitlin and Kelsey combined. Kaleena and Azzi are the best combinations of accuracy and volume for anyone in the women's game.

Kaleena has the UConn single-season record of 121 made 3-pointers. After last night, Azzi has 113 and is within striking distance. Azzi missed too many games to approach KML's career record.

KML had a great floater. Don’t remember her ever missing it.

KML looks great! She's slimmed down considerably. Although I think Azzi is the better player because of her defense and overall scoring abilities, I enjoyed seeing KML shoot the three. I thought she had the best looking shot in college when she played. One of my all time favorite Huskies.
