Something is off. Getting 2012 vibes.
Didn’t you spend your life savings on Samson stock this summer?

It’s November. I realize today is a rough day and UConn fans are literally jockeying for space on the GW bridge catwalk but we have a whole season in front of us. Yes, there’s a lot to figure out but this can still be a great season. I think it’s good not to play Iowa State at this point anyway. The team needs to get a win and regroup. There are plenty of opportunities to get quality wins so let’s keep our spirits up. ( my best Scrappy imitation)

this team can be very good. We need to get Nowell up to speed and we’ve got to make sure we are playing our best wings. There’s a lot going on between Ross, Stewart, Abraham etc. Eventually, we’ll figure out the secret sauce.

This is a work in progress, but we definitely have the horses. Gotta figure out how to run them.

It just goes to show how hard recruiting is. The best transfer G the Back to back champs could get was Mahaney… More than anything this makes me thankful for the fact that KU swooped in and outbid us for Timberlake which enabled us to get Cam. We don’t win back to back with Timberlake instead of Cam.
Not sure it was a case of the best we could get as much as it who we selected. We probably had plenty of options if we pursued.

I haven’t dug in yet but you can bet the opposing fanbase perception, especially the blue bloods, is that last two years were a freak lucky mirage based on great talent anomaly. That Hurley is unhinged, it was all Luke Murray behind the scenes, blah blah. When you’re as polarizing a personality as Hurley is, you’re respected when you’re winning but fanbases cannot wait until you lose so they can call you a freak accident and lucky. The narrative is gonna run hot with him.

I think its less so the best we could get, more Mahaney was who Hurley wanted. He zeroed in on him, Brea and Reed. First miss in the portal era. Newton, Spencer, Reed, Diarra, Joey C, Alleyne? Hits. Mahaney? Miss. 6 for 7 isn't bad.

If Nowell replaces Mahaney in the rotation and Ball and Johnson figure out their defensive issues, we got a squad.

Yes but I won the bet since he started the first game. Going to lose the other one I made which was more starts between Samson and Reed. At least I hope I lose that one.

Could not have been more wrong on Samson Johnson.

We have basically an entire season ahead of us so all hope is not gone but, there is a ton of work to be done to get into a position where we could be a factor in the big dance.

  • Reed needs to play 25+ minutes a game, Johnson 10 and the remainder filled with Singare/small lineup. A few days ago I felt not having given Singare any real run in the cupcake games wasn't an issue. Now it seems like it could have been an opportunity squandered. Perhaps some earlier minutes in those games would have helped him provide a little actual relief in either first half in Maui
  • Mahaney needs to be given a Joey C role for now, which hopefully he can grow from and become the player DH believes he can be.
  • Diarra & Nowell need to be our PG combo and we need to hope the Nowell can accelerate his learning curve.
  • Stewart deserves more run. DH can't view him as only a sub for AK or LM. He deserves a bigger role.
  • I'm a bit confused with Ball. With rare exceptions, last year it appeared his entire offensive game was slashing to the basket. Now it looks like he wants to be purely a spot up shooter. There are a lot of things he can add to his game that in all candor we desperately need.
  • At times the past two games our offense looked like the players just met an hour before tipoff. This also could have been an opportunity squandered from earlier games, due to an attempt to force a rotation from preconceived estimations of what some guys could do. PT has to be merit based or we won't go anywhere.
  • This may be DH's least effective defense since he was coaching high school and personally I don't get it.
On the plus side; we have a very experienced staff that has put together championship teams, knows how to teach defense and normally doesn't tolerate mediocrtity. We also doe have quite a few very talented pieces that, if they can learn to perform as a team could compete with anyone out there.

On the minus side; we have a massive amount of distance to make up and need to do so during the season (Waylon called it repairing a plane while it's in the air) as preseason is long gone. It's my guess that we won't get any favors from the officials for quite some time so that will just increase the challenge.

We haven't won a title as a five seed yet so that could be our goal this season.

Defense is the answer and Hurley understands that. Nowell showed quickness so he’s promising.

The McRib is back! But only for a limited time, again. My only question is why put pickles on a rib sandwich? Why?

I get the onions, but not the pickles. And why not cheese? If I'm bringing it home, I put a slice of Land O Lakes on that bad boy. You cannot put whatever McDonald's calls cheese on that thing. The sodium content explodes, just like your colon will minutes after eating a McRib, but I still love em. I do.

The pickles provide acid to balance the fat of the rib.

sort of like how a few losses early provide a balancing counterweight to the unrealistic expectations many had going into a season attempting to replace two lottery picks, and two others collecting an NBA paycheck

Yeah and that got us Cam.

We could have had Brea. He wanted to come but Hurley chose Mahaney. He’s not gonna hit on everyone. Hurley thought he could play the Point and maybe he still can but right now he’s def a work in progress .

I get the sweet and sour strategy, but McDonald's pickles are the second worst fast food pickles next to Wendy's pickles.

The vinegar brine of pickles doesn't do this samich any justice whatsoever.

The good amount of onions, however, do lift the taste.

Pickles really only belong on burgers and on the side of turkey club samiches.

The offense is not the problem, the defense is atrocious. Good thing is it can’t get any worse than the last 2 games ( can it ).

I agree. It is too early to write UConn off.

The shine is coming off. Our reputation is suffering. I think opposing teams will be getting a false sense of "they are easily beatable" going into games. UConn will be playing with a chip on their shoulder. That is when the tide will turn. There is enough talent to make a deep run. Too early to think otherwise.
What a ridiculous post. “The shine is coming off.” And “our reputation is suffering.” Oh really? Tell that to our incoming recruits. Go find another program to follow.

Let’s see if Houston stays 1 again with a second loss. Them maintaining 1 with a loss at home made no sense. UConn dropping to 10 is the most feel good part of that Col loss.

The SEC is gonna be a beast. Auburn, Bama, UK, Tenn may all be better than the best team in the BE. They need to square off with the B12 in a preseason matchup.

B12 may have been slightly overhyped as AZ, Baylor and Houston may have been a bit overrated. Houston def misses Shead.

If Mahaney’s offense was worth sacrificing his defense, then he’d be worth playing big minutes. His issue right now is that he doesn’t understand the offense, and is always 3 steps late which gums the whole system up

One would assume that will improve with time and we can get back to the double digit scoring Mahaney that we know. If not, Nowell has to develop much faster than planned. I think at this point Diarra is what he is (in a good way), so we really need one of those 2 things to happen
The issue although Mahaney is a part all falls on Samson. He is only a 15 minute off the bench pace changing guy. Ross should start. Ross is better. Sam just keeps making the worst fouls you can think off at the worst times. I think in both games he had a combined 4 fouls in the first 2 minutes of each half. Against pedestrian bigs. Kulkbrenner us going to light him up.
