Ju Ju carried off the court with an injury

ESPN just said Ju Ju is out for the rest of the game, and they are still investigating/diagnosing about her knee's future.

.-.
It looked like she was taking a large step forward with her right leg when that knee buckled! It didn't look good!
Knee over-extended or ACL possible!

Yes but i don't think they need her tonight, Mississippi State is terrible.
I'm trying to figure out how they got in? They beat one ranked team and Vanderbilt but otherwise their resume doen't look too good to me. Because of the SEC mystique baloney?

I know Mississippi State isn't very good but USC looks phenomenal tonight. Even if Juju's out next weekend, they're going to be a handful for UCONN (assuming both teams advance) with more offense running through Iriafen and inserting a lethal 3pt shooter in Howell into the lineup.

Anybody else find the crowd reaction to Mississippi State a little unusual? It sounds like they are getting a constant booing whenever they tough the ball. I get how incredibly disappointing the injury was, but didn't see any ill intent or reason for this kind of a reaction.

Southern Cal's players have reacted admirably to the situation but I think their fans have demonstrated a certain lack of class. At least that is the way I see it.
Agree - understandably the fans at Galen were disappointed but replays show nothing egregious by the MSU players during the fouls on Watkins or Samuels. The USC fans booing the MSU players during the game and in the handshake line afterwards and booing MSU cheerleaders at halftime demonstrated truly classless behavior.

Stating the obvious, this is a huge loss. One thing about Coach Gottlieb is that with her NBA background she gives her athletes freedom to play. In Watkins case, this means Gottlieb has few qualms about letting Watkins take over and dominate a game and will the team to victory. It is why with Watkins USC is a better team than UCLA, the tallest squad in the nation. This is an incredible loss no matter how talented Iriafen is.

There have been times I have wished Geno would pull the trigger and let Bueckers dominate to victory in a close game. Bueckers is easily capable. But with Fudd in full swing now and Sarah Strong being the best athlete on the floor in any game, I don’t think Bueckers will have to be a one woman wrecking crew.

I don’t think the South Carolina game was in any way a surprise, although one could concede S Car had an off night. UConn is the real deal and they deservedly exposed South Carolina. South Carolina’s best offensive threat is Tessa Johnson, and while a top 20 caliber player, she is not at Fudd’s skill level. And if South Carolina tries to shut Bueckers down (they can to a limited degree), they don’t have a very strong Sarah Strong with the ability to play multiple positions.

I know this thread is about Watkins but UConn does not have its star player go crazy to win like USC. Watkins absence (barring a miracle she is not seriously injured) changes the tournament dramatically. A sad circumstance.

As we all thought…the dreaded three letter acronym

Confirmed ACL.....so gutted for Juju. Likely means she'll miss the entirety of next season, but this timing is horrible because it'll affect not only next year but this year as well with the tournament still going on.

I hate injuries so much and it seems like every year so many amazing female athletes are sitting out. Of course as a basketball fan it sucks, but I'm sure it sucks even more for herself and her family. An amazing player but just seems like such a nice, tough, humble kid. I hope she has a smooth recovery.

Darn Darn Darn. Knew it when I saw the play. I hate ACL injuries. Hope she comes back better than ever when she’s ready.

Prayers up for juju I wouldn’t even come back to college just go to the wnba after next season

I wish Juju a speedy and complete recovery.

When she got injured in the previous game she brushed that off as the usual wear and tear of the season. I hope, for her sake, she learns to pace herself and allows for a complete recovery. She deserves to be playing at a high level for many years!

JuJu injured her left ankle 2 days ago. That ankle looked fine yesterday but it makes me wonder if there is a correlation. What a horrible injury, but I’m sure she comes back strong. She is a great player and I enjoy watching her play, so smooth.

I had just changed the channel when the injury took place. But had ESPN on on my phone so the news quickly came. Once again it saddens me that a player gets hurt during a game. Not just a player but a generational player. Even though this is something that makes my body cringe when a player has to be helped off of the floor. She is an awesome athlete and will be missed. But like others she will be back. Hopefully stronger and better than ever. Prayers to her and family.

However, as we UConn fans know quite well is that injuries can happen at any time. I have been a watcher, a fan, a season ticket holder, a media member and a supporter for countless years. UConn has had their share of injuries that took place prior to the season starting, during the season as well as during the tournament. Let me ask , but what would the number of championships be if not for those injuries?

Just a few names that I can recall quickly:

Nykesha Sales; Svetlana Abrosimova; Shea Ralph; Sue Bird; Nicole Wolff; Mel Thomas; Caroline Doty; Katie Lou Samuelson; Paige Bueckers; Dorka Juhasz, Aubrey Griffen and Azzi Fudd.

That's heartbreaking for JuJu and USC. It reminded me of when Shea tore her ACL in the 1997 tournament, not in the way it happened, but when.

USC is still a formidable team as evidenced by how they won that game without JuJu.
