I don’t want any pre-madonna’s that come in highly ranked but only want to practice for 1 year in UConn uniform and enter draft. We’re too good for that…
“Pre-madonna’s”… do we really want such old recruits?

There are exceptions :) He looks like he is ready to rock…. And he committed to our program early (for a recruit like him.)

I will say the “jury is out” though and we’ll see if he wants to be a Husky or if this is a practice year for him. I trust D Hurley had a good chance to make this valuation - just don’t want quick decision to take a disgruntled recruit who left program.

Think about Jordan Hawkins - he was nowhere near the player as a Freshman as he was as Sophmore - let’s see how Castle does.

Well Hawkins was nowhere ranked like Castle was either so the expectations for Jordan weren’t at all the same. Nonetheless we still have to see how this goes. Will be fun no matter!

Thabeet isn’t a sore spot, he was just an outstanding college player that didn’t pan out in the pros. This is a college team, so hell yeah I’d take another Thabeet. Dude was an absolute eraser around the rim on defense.

This, and I think the fact he didn’t pan out as expected at the next level even turned off many Husky fans overall perception. For me, he was a great Husky and watching him improve his impact on both ends every year for 3 was a pleasure! One of my favorites for sure.

Agreed. We are a college program. We should rate players for what they did at UConn, not in the pros. While it's true that he is on most expert's short list of worst lottery picks, that should have no bearing on his status amongst UConn players.

We have won a lot of championships with players that were not McDonald’s All Americans. We’ve beaten a lot of teams loaded with these “one and done” minded kids. Look at the way we shredded higher ranked teams this year.

99% of our players would’ve left after their freshman year if they were first round prospects. Doesn’t mean they don’t love UConn. So many 1 and dones from Duke/Kentucky talk about the school long after going pro. Most of these guys are competitors, who would give anything to win in the moment. But how can you blame them for turning down millions of dollars once it’s on the table?

It’s not so much I blame anyone, but what is good for the program that I am concerned with.

Look at Villanova w/ Cam Whitmore - that type player. Wasn’t good enough in fresh year to change ’Nova team and now he’s gone. That was plan coming in…

That type of player - I don’t blame - but they aren’t good for collecting championships.

And again, look at Nova, look at Razorbacks and long list of other teams we SHREDDED this year that had “one and done” players.

No disrespect to them for going but I prefer we recruit mostly players that look like they want to play College BBall for more than a year…

Just ‘saying… as a UConn fan…

So you wish we never recruited Castle? Already projected as a lottery pick next summer

In the case of almost every one and done... it is not necessarily the player... it is the role and fit on any given team. I have faith in our staff that they can recognize whether a player with one and done potential is a good fit and if they don't find one (or two or three), they move on to somebody else regardless of NBA potential who is a more valuable in his given role.

Spot on. Where you run into trouble is when a kid is being sold on a role he will never occupy. Like a UK bringing in 5 or 6 kids a year expecting to be 1 and done. I think an ideal roster construction has 1 or 2 of these guys surrounded by vets but there’s a million ways to skin a cat.

Pre-Madonna is absolutely magnificent. Belongs on a Michael Scott whiteboard.
Ha. Spot on!
Also, in all seriousness, how come 'Primo Don' never came into fashion when describing entitled male athletes? Wouldn't that be the proper masc. phrase?
'That Baker Mayfield is such a Primo Don'
