"And Geno also reprised a sermon he first delivered after the loss to Notre Dame this season, the one about how critics seem so willing to cast disparaging adjectives upon his program after a loss – instead of giving credit where credit is due."

I couldn't agree more with Geno on this.

" We live in a society that demands someone be blamed when you lose. It can’t be as simple as, “Well, we lost a game and St. John’s played really well."

“Welcome to our world,” Geno said. “Does it get tiring [listening to criticism and second-guessing]? Yes, every day. We live in a society that demands someone be blamed when you lose. It can’t be as simple as, “Well, we lost a game and St. John’s played really well.

“No, someone has to blamed. Tiffany Hayes has to be blamed for not getting out in time to contest the last shot. Stefanie Dolson [needs to be blamed] for not staying out of foul trouble. Or you blame some kid for turning the ball over or me for not calling a timeout when I should have or not doing something else I should have done.

“Let’s place the blame for losing. There is no congratulating the other team because they played great and their kid made a tough shot [to win it]. We live in a society that says if you can’t blame someone, there is no fun to [the process]."

Amen, Geno! I do not understand fans that need to place blame on someone when the Huskies lose a game, as though the team owes the fans a win.

Nan, it's called analysis. Or so I've heard.

People that need a bunch of teenagers and young twenty-somethings to win a game or they're miserable are nuts.
Count me in on that, although I don't need them to win a game. But I sure was miserable after the St. John's game--not for me, but for the players especially and the coaches.

And the Boneyarders!:D

I don't think anyone was happy after the loss, but only a handful needed to conduct a trial for four days in order to blame someone for their unhappiness.

He's talking about us, you know. Not people who follow the team by reading the newspaper. And not people who write the newspaper. Us.

We aren't gonna change. We'll always hash it out. And if the critics here go astray, there are plenty of others here to straighten them out.

Our job as mods isn't to please Geno or any faction on the board, including critics or player defenders or attackers of either. It's to keep the board civil and consequently an enjoyable place to spend some time.

Sometimes keeping it civil includes gentle hints to people who pour it on so thick or so irrationally or so repetitiously that they're becoming a board annoyance. Believe me, this includes people at both ends of the criticism/adulation spectrum.

Those hints aren't always taken at first, but in the end we'll make sure they get noticed one way or the other before the posts in question become a detriment to the board ambiance.

I'm all for civility. There is far too little of it in today's society.

That does not mean that people need to always be PC. But tact and civilty can be used in expressing ones views.

Usually when UConn loses, it invoves a combination of factors: the other team is very good or plays very well and we play below our norm. We were off our defensive game, couldn't do much in the halfcourt offense, and turned the ball over far too often. SJU won because they were good enough to take advantage of our off-night. They also helped contribute to our off-night. SJU had the talent, coaching, and discipline, plus they made clutch plays that we could not make.

I think we do need to give SJU credit, but if we had brought our A game, we would have won by 15 or so. Of our players and coaching staff, only Kiah seemed to have a good night. Everyone else was below their norm. We can win most games when we have 2-3 players having good games. When we are firing on all cylinders, even ranked teams lose by 40. In the rare games when we are firing on 1 cylinder, we are very vulnerable. Some teams are not good enough, smart enough, or tough enough to take advantage of it. SJU was--and they notched a very rare win at UConn.

Me, too, DD, but he better talk to CD. ;)

I've done some soul searching this morning after reading this again. Geno is right. I am now considering myself a " born again sports fan". After all this is all just entrtainment. As Bob said on the radio yesterday, this is all good for WCBB, knowing a team like St. John's could come here and win. I have been too selfish a fan. I'm also a die hard yankee fan, but I will lighten up and just enjoy the games, regardless of the outcome. Let's all just enjoy and watch the players we all love. I hope I'm forgiven.

I still think it's Geno's fault.... He wore an awful tie that day......:)

Also I noticed cufflinks - I think standard button-cuffed shirts are luckier

analysis doggy? This is The Boneyard. Analysis would imply intelligence and or some basketball knowledge.

I believe doggy was being a "trifle" sarcastic.

Nothing funnier than someone pointing out sarcasm to someone who was also being sarcastic

I believe meyers was being a tad sarcastic, too. :)
Maybe my name needs to changed from Smarty Pants to Sarcastic Pants........but that really makes no sense. Either one would imply (or is it infer) that I actually wear pants as I sit in my mother's basement.

This morning Geno tweeted that he realized too late that when he responded to a "moron" he became a moron himself.

Twitter might be too dangerous for our coach!
