If it was the incident at the end of the game, I cringed when I saw it. The problem is that it was AD who fouled the guy not DD. Hope the kid isn't fragile because it was not a good thing to see. I know some are saying it was a tap, and nothing of it, but it wasn't one of Calhoun's best moments.
Lets hope it blows away without fuss. But he did hit him in the gut with an angry face.
It's one of those things that doesn't look good because it's not good. It made me extremely uncomfortable because it's not far from an angry reaction that would make him look very, very bad, because it would be very, very bad, in the national media.
It's quite simple - arguing that he's 70 misses the point. Arguing that it wasn't a real punch misses the point.
Striking a player in any fashion whatsoever is unacceptable, and it will be called out if he makes the mistake of doing it with an open camera shot.
Frankly, I think he got lucky. There was a group of players around and it wasn't obvious from the camera angle what exactly he did.
This is the angriest I've seen Calhoun, and he used to get really angry with Stan. He grabbed Stan by the arm once, and that wasn't cool, but at least an arm grab is not a strike.
I really, very much, definitely, hope that he never loses his cool and whacks a kid - we're several years past the point in history where it will be either overlooked or forgotten.
EDIT - 2:02 and 10 second mark of the ESPN3 broadcast. Looked as bad as I recalled it. But not that bad, because you can't actually see the hand - if it was an open hand, not a huge deal. If a closed fist, not so good.
I didn't get to see the game ... is there video anywhere of "the punch"?
