Most universities are reluctant to fire women basketball coaches who have had some success. This is a plum job...... Who ever they hire will need a couple of years to rebuild recruiting

Wow - the shot heard round the Big 10 world!

Gotta be a juicy buyout, seeing that there was 5 years left on his contract. Wouldn't mind seeing that check wind up in my bank account!

This is a bit of a surprise for a well established and successful coach. And they get to pay him for another 4 years. Dont know his age but that seems like a nice segway into retirement if he chooses.

Successful? Not so much lately. I suspect TOSU was embarrassed to host NCAA's without a team in the tournament.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Geno and Foster coached together somewhere along the line.

Foster coached at St. Joseph's, then Vanderbilt, then OSU. I would suggest he was successful at all, spectacular at none.

His career is definitely intertwined with some of the other coaches from Philly; note that one of his assistants during his Ohio State stint was Debbie Black, a former WNBAer that played for him at St. Joseph's.

Foster hired Geno as an asst coach at Bishop McDevitt HS and then hired him as an asst coach at St Joe's.

I love the quotes.

'Jim Foster is SUCH a great guy and did SO much for Ohio State. BTW, you're fired!'

Foster: "The man who gave Geno his first job coaching females, first in high school and later at St. Joseph's"
You win - I forgot Geno was holding down 23 part-time jobs while he was getting his undergraduate degree at West Chester College.

To beat a dead horse I think he graduated '77 and asst. coached St Joes 78 and 79.

The Official UConn Bio lists him as graduating West Chester in 1981. He coached at Virginia from 1981-1985. His other gigs must've been part-time.

Not just a post in search of a thread, but a post promising "info" on Sadie. I made several futile attempts to find a friggin' link. LOL!!
