Jeff Jacobs: He Needs To Say 'I Am Sorry' So We Can All Move On

He is unlikely to say "I apologize for" because in fact he doesn't think he did anything wrong. He was put in a position where he had to handle it the way he did for MD if he wanted the job and he wanted the job. So he did what every departing executive does everywhere, which is worry about what he has to do for the new job first, and then only secondarily worry about the effect it has on those who worked with and for him at the old job.

Thus the press release words like "I regret," which are true because anyone who didn't think he wouldn't have preferred being allowed to tell his kids and then have it publicly announced is just being contrarian.

He is who he is -- he's not going to ask for forgiveness when he doesn't think he did anything wrong. Unfortunate, but not wrong. Our fanbase can get over it or not. Up to each one of us.

Expecting Randy to be smooth isn't any less crazy than Randy being able to dance.

Cue the gif.....

While I think he will apologize in some form, the only people who DESERVE an apology are the players and I'm thinking he has done that.

I'd hate to be holding on to something, in the grand scheme of things, that is so small and trivial (to us, not the players)

Anger and hate shorten lives. I know...my first time around defending Randy took at least 5 years off my life. :)

An apology would be nice but I don't really care, he made a business decision. Would be much better if he had been successful at Maryland and chose to come back to UConn because he wanted to and to help our program. Still makes me wonder if UConn would be in this disaster of a situation if he had stayed. I kind of feel like both sides are just settling, but I really hope not.

From what I know about how he left, he may owe those players and the athletic department an apology. That was just awful. If he helps get us into the B1G, build him a statue.

I look forward to your report because I'm quite sure that the boneyard will move directly on to current football matters rather than argue pointlessly about a perceived 7-year old slight.

I think you overestimate the Boneyard...... LOL

Many coaches before him have left in a worse way than he did. It's how college football works.

Fans still not being over it is as small time as it gets.
Do you even buy FB tickets?

He shouldn't apologize for anything. A lot of coaches with new jobs don't even stick around for their team's Bowl game (see USF today for example). He coached it through.

If an apology would make anyone feel better at this point I would suggest that person is over-sensitive.

He should apologize how he sh&t the bet at Maryland. Or at least tell us he will be better here for his second act than at his dream job

That was part of the problem. He coached like his mind was somewhere else. Because it was.

Why do you care if some people are pissed off about the way Edsall left? They're entitled to their feelings.
He said he regretted the way it came out. Get over it.

He made an apology in the press release yesterday.

Here's the way it rolls.

Music starts with "O Fortuna" while video board shows UConn success under Edsall- ND win, Birmingham Bowl, Taggart FG against USF, etc

1. "I'm back to finish what I started".
2. "I left here a few years ago chasing a 'Dream job' and I got caught up in the moment"
3. "For those players and fans who invested so much to get to Glendale, I could have left better".
(Having one or two of the players from that team nearby with some eye contact, a head nod or dare I say a
hug, nicely closes those wounds)
4. "Moving forward we are going to build a program that can get back to New Year's bowls".
5. "It starts now."
6. "The college football landscape has changed dramatically since that time."
7. "UConn plays for championships and will play exciting football."
8. "I am assembling a staff with proven experience excelling on offense, defense and special teams in today's
college football environment".
9. "The goal for next year is for us to be meeting together on this date in a hotel lobby preparing for a bowl
game instead of here at the Rent."
10. "The staffs first two goals are to finish the recruiting season strong and thoroughly review game film of all
returning players."
(Pause with a mischievous grin on a boss inside joke)
11. "We will continue the strong UConn tradition of developing teenagers in to young men with a strong
emphasis on classroom performance and becoming outstanding citizens in the UConn community."
12. "I have thrown out all my block 'C' sweaters and have four pairs of red skinny jeans on order."

Questions?

Departs to Van Halen's "Finish What You Started"

Number 3 is a non-apology apology. It's the same thing celebrities and politicians do when they want a dust-up to go away and never be mentioned again.

Sounds like you're over-sensitive in worrying about others over-sensitivity.

That's a non-apology apology. The same kind that celebrities and politicians do when they've been caught with their "pants down". That's not a leader of young men in my opinion.

I was out in Phoenix when the news broke, the day after the game. I was devastated. Not mad about him leaving, because he had a better opportunity for himself and his family. Most would have made that same decision. However, the way that he handled it, whether of his or Maryland's doing, was insulting. I reveled in every game that he lost and was at Maryland when we beat him in his new gig.

Hearing this again about how he left has made me throw up in my mouth. "The way he handled it", "The way he handled it . . . GIVE IT UP.

Win some games Randy. Ancient history
