I'd prefer the tradition continue... but that's also on the university for not making it a big thing. They should to touching a big metal 6 on the way out of the tunnel.I believe the idea of reserving the #6 jersey was intended for the defensive side of the ball. However, it seems that the entire concept was abandoned last year, as the #6 jersey was worn by two players coming from the transfer portal on both sides of the ball. Neither saw much time.
FWIW I'd rather see that moved to the field coming out of the tunnel and the space around it better utilized. I'd just reach out to Jazz's family and the people who worked on it and make sure they were good with it.I guess that the athletic department feels that the obelisk in front of the jumbotron is enough tribute as UCONN has never retired a football jersey number...
Same here.FWIW I'd rather see that moved to the field coming out of the tunnel and the space around it better utilized. I'd just reach out to Jazz's family and the people who worked on it and make sure they were good with it.
Yes.Same here.
Players touching it while running out of the tunnel or something to that effect.
I think they still have the Jazz Howard quote coming out of the locker room, "Play each play like it's the last play you'll ever play", correct?
They did say it was to go to exemplary players that were in the likeness of Jazz. Personally I bring new fans by for a pic.I guess that the athletic department feels that the obelisk in front of the jumbotron is enough tribute as UCONN has never retired a football jersey number...
Just a guess but people putting their drinks on the base are having their their photo taken with the monument. In the house tailgating and showing respect. It takes a long time to build tradition and Susie and Warde set us back a bunch with the new logo. Some things should not be constantly changed to build tradition in college ball. That and us old faahts bringing the young to understand. Explaining the monument taking a photo is planting a UConn seed. Just MHO on the monument, leave it where it is.Yes.
I get the notion was let's have it where the fans can see it too, but it's pretty much ignored now, except for people occasionally putting their drinks on the base.
There are definitely plenty of people who feel very strongly about it. That's a good thing. They did say it was to go to exemplary players that were in the likeness of Jazz. Personally I bring new fans by for a pic.

I mean jazz was a tragedy because he clearly had next level talent. It would benefit the program to honor it.There are definitely plenty of people who feel very strongly about it. That's a good thing.
Jazz is death was a tragedy because he was a good man who got struck down for nothing more than trying to stop a fight. Of course the university is going to continue to honor him. Not because it benefits the program, but because it's the right thing to do.I mean jazz was a tragedy because he clearly had next level talent. It would benefit the program to honor it.
Love this idea. I visit his memorial every time I go to the Rent.I'd prefer the tradition continue... but that's also on the university for not making it a big thing. They should to touching a big metal 6 on the way out of the tunnel.
I don't and didn't know him as a person, and yes, I'm far more mechanical but the point of the conversation is it seems the university hasn't and is treating it more as an object.Jazz is death was a tragedy because he was a good man who got struck down for nothing more than trying to stop a fight. Raymello Murphy and Bryan Parham wearing the honored #6. I don't really understand it... thought this was supposed to mean something? Both these guys just joined the team. They should be giving the #6 to Rosa or Edwards.
