Jayden Ross

Waiting for HW611 to pounce on this dreamy post.

Andrew was more explosive & twitchy. Jayden is athletic, but too much of a long strider to feel anything like AJax.

Andre had that air of confidence about him that’s hard to replicate. He would stare down opponents and sometimes brush into them with his shoulder to let him know who’s boss. He was also a superior athlete.

I like Jayden but he’s no Andre.

Jayden is no Junior Year Andre but they do share a bunch of traits. The main difference is that Jayden is the better shooter and Andre the better play maker. Given that, (and I assume this is already happening)... Jayden should be watching Andre tape every day.

Watching Andre that tournament was a thing of beauty. There was nothing like it. His passing ability and defense was a game changer. It made that team elite
Don't forget about his rebounding and ball handling to break the press. Once Hurley and Co. figured out that putting him in the dunker's spot in the half court offense was the way to optimize his output as well as the team's output, it almost seemed inevitable UConn would win the title in 2023.

He would stare down opponents and sometimes brush into them with his shoulder to let him know who’s boss. He was also a superior athlete.

@TheShot1990 - he comes from a MMA family and I am sure he picked up a few things himself and it's why he carried himself like an alpha.

He’s the guy who should guard the opposing pg 20 min a game— will throw off opposing team’s offense with his length
Outside of being similar sized wings with defensive flexibility, this is a pretty awful comp. Their offensive games are wildly different. Ross’ offense hinges on him having turned himself into a pretty good 3-point shooter that can make teams pay when they help off of him. Meanwhile Andre played plenty of point for us and functioned as a secondary ball handler and was a much better passer. Credit where credit is due, Ross has improved his D a lot, but he has a long way to go before it’s at Jackson’s level.

Andre was a super freak athletically. That is a very high bar and we shouldn't expect it from Ross. Andre was also an amazing passer, so much so that it could cause problems for his teammates. He was one of the most fun to watch in UConn history.

Ross is still growing. Defensively he is as big of a pest as Andre. He appears to be a much better three point shooter. If he improves his passing and his ability to get the rim, he will help the team dramatically.

Andre played above the rim and had amazing court vision, also very quick for his height.

Ross doesn't have that level of explosion or twitch. He's a plus athlete for his size/length, but nothing crazy.

Our best team consists of Ross as a true athletic stopper- the best one we have
I think Hurley has made the same comp

Thank you. Jayden improved a lot between seasons and actually can help the team when he's put in this year. But comparing him to AJ is absurd. Ross still doesn't have good offensive instincts, while Jackson had a great feel for where everyone was at any moment and what the best pass to make was.

Ross = combo of Lasan Kromah and Kentan Facey. A 3&D wing (emphasis on the D) thats not a great ball handler, passer, rebounder, finisher, or shooter.

Jordan Walsh?

Ross is a valuable asset to the team, but Jackson was a starter who was great at finding guys on the break or in the half court offense. He was like having another PG out there at times. Ross the potential to stuff a a staff sheet on any given night, but he's less consistent doing so and I would not trust him running the offense for more than a few minutes if it came down to it.
He's very athletic and getting better, but AJax was a clearly superior player at the same point in their careers.
I'd like to see Ross work on being able to post up a smaller player when there is a switch and play a little with his back to the basket and develop a little turn around jumper. He doesn't take many, but seems to have improved from the 3 point arc.

AJax could touch the top of the backboard if he wanted to. Freakish hops.

I think the line between Ross supporters and Ross naysayers boils down to facts:
1. Ross is the best 1:1 defender on the team
2. Ross is occasionally an outside threat.
3. Ross was useless on offense vs Florida, coughed up the ball near the end when we were up 3, but generally his 1:1 defense was still on point.

Ross is a good athlete but Andre was on a completely different level.

This is very accurate. Once again I'll bring in the fact that there were bushels of posts in the 1st natty year asking to stick A Jax on the bench....in February!!!!

Ross isn’t (yet) Lasan Kromah. Much less a combination of Kromah and someone else.
It doesnt mean he was as good as both guys combined. kromah was an average G that didn’t do anything in particular really well and Facey was an average forward that didn’t do anything in particular really well. Ross is somewhere in between in terms of skillset and size. All 3 are 20 mpg off the bench guys.
