Jayden Ross is Back

I do appreciate that as a UConn fan, I can still watch players grow, develop and continue to stay with the program in an era that’s headlined by constant player movement and a lack of retention. It really speaks volumes to Hurley and co. and the culture they’ve established.

Would love to see what Ross can do with a starter role

I think if he puts in the work ideally he could start at the 3 spot. Doubt he resigned to be the 6th man. His versatility to fill in at the 2 or 4 is valuable as well. He has the skills, but he has to work on confidence and slowing down the game. He was much improved near the end of the season, but still leaves doubt whether he can reach his ceiling. Hurley must believe he can make the next step. Glad he returned.

The “it’s just confidence” take is a bit underselling it. He’s got a lot of skills development to do with his handle and ability to create offense. He just hasn’t really showed that ability much (vs. someone like Stew that has shown more of that creation but just struggles to consistently tap into it). That said, he’s got a really strong floor even if he doesn’t take big steps in those areas. His trajectory has me hopefully he comes back with a much more complete offense game. He could be a load this year.

Bumping this thread

How on earth is a thread about a player leaving getting more attention and life than a thread about Jayden Ross returning?

C'mon people, talk about what matters to us and our program. Talk about people that bleed Husky Blue, stop talking about a player that quit on us

Thrilled Jayden's back as I expected he would be. Is every returning player expected to make a statement? It seems absurd to me, unless they previously said they were entering the portal just to test the waters.

Actually... I am also thrilled that Jayden decided to return!

1. He brings a skillset that no one else on the team this year or projected to be next year possesses. He is already an excellent 3-point shooter, one of our best defenders and always brings his lunch pail, willing to get his elbows dirty and help the team in any way possible.

2. He has the versatility to go in the game at the 2, 3 or 4 position depending upon what Hurley is trying to accomplish at that moment (yes, I realize that he is best suited as a 3, but that versatility proves to be very important for the way we play). This is a huge positive.

3. He is unafraid to drive into the lane and has the size to finish strong. His athleticism is also a major plus.

If, as @DW1361 was pointing out, he can slow the game down for himself on the offensive end while continuing to improve his shooting consistency, he has the chance to get himself at least 20 minutes a night on next year's team. And if he does a Hilton Armstong, maybe he does push his way into the starting lineup. I for one wouldn't put it past him.

Bottom line, his improvement from last year to this year showed us all that he has the chance to be an integral piece on a team with Championship aspirations next year. It has been exciting to watch his growth and maturity from freshman year to now with anticipation for what next year shall bring for him!

Does anyone know how talented his brother is? Does he have similar potential?

I love Ross, and I've been saying this long before it became popular to do so.

Talent, energy, athleticism and he loves UConn. He's a believer. As we know, that's very important

Thank you Jayden, can't wait to watch you lead us to another WINNING season
He comes onto the court full of fire in the middle of the battle. Just what you want to see when your his teammate or a fan. Help is on the way. Scary for the opponents. There is nothing like a strong bench. Even if he became a starter there are more coming in to get their minutes. Relentless.

Jayden Ross is having the type of college career people dreamed about in the early 2000s. Could totally see him blowing the lid off the door and avg 15+ and 5 rbs next year. Excited to have him back, he an important piece to the puzzle.

I like Ross a lot as well. But 15 pts? Did we have anyone average 15 pts this year?

I guess that’s a fair question considering the ball movement and unselfishness of our offense.

I guess more so I meant he could get us 15 and 5 on any night we needed, rather than averages. His play led to a big confidence boost in the later half of this season for him. I believe he’ll capitalize on it.
