Jayden Ross is Back

The BY assessments about this team this year have been the most egregiously off-the- mark for any individual or team in recent history.
We should actually celebrate how awful we are at judging talent
Can we share some of the Boneyard blame with our pal Sam Vecenie down in Melbourne? Dude got my hopes sky high on Furphy.

So stoked to see this official news. Was pretty bummed about Reibe and immediately thought, “If J Ross, J Stew, Solo, and Silas all come back, Reibe being gone won’t sting so bad.” I’m sure I can get psyched on new guys every year (as I have on Joey C, Cam, Malachi, and others), but having some core continuity really is essential to me loving my team. Let’s go Jayden!!!

Now some posters have moved on to this is the end of UConn basketball.

I say we call him JayFour from now on............so glad he's back. I bought all of the good news about him all these years and it's great we're seeing what Dan Hurley saw during the summer of 2024. That was when the hype started but some guys just take a little longer to feel confident on the floor.

Who is actually committed to playing for UCONN next year? Demary and Mullins are contemplating going
Pro. The freshman can change their minds at the drop of a dollar. Ball? Reibe in portal. Guys who couldn't
get on court last year?
By forum rules, anyone who didn't graduate or announce they're leaving is assumed to return until stated otherwise.

I can see Jayden having big jump this year. Even to the tune of 15ppg or more. He had been behind talent, and his own confidence was low. Near the end of the year, once he got the opportunity to play freer, he got better and better.

Don’t see a thread on this but delete if there is. Kinda weird in today’s day and age to have to post coming back threads for players but regardless I am so excited about this. The ultimate UConn guy. Clearly bleeds blue and made a huge leap last year. Excited for year four!

Great News! His development this year was great to see. Sometimes 4* guys take a bit longer than we’d like to and have to be patient…tough to do in modern CBB landscape.

I’ll just remind folks I was on JRoss from the get go and was a cheerleader for him last Spring portal season. He exceeed my expectations this year.

Can’t wait for senior year JRoss!!!

Receipts:

This is one of the running BS narratives of the Yard.

Ross does not have a “horrible shot”.

I’m no shooting form savant, but I’ve played enough and watched enough hoops to be able to pick out a janky bad form shot and a shot that’s at least decent-looking.

Ross has a decent looking shot. Yes, I know what his shooting % for the year ended up being. But it was mainly driven by mental issues where you could see he lost confidence in his abilities.

He has the skills and size to make shots around the rim. We saw some very athletic finishes even against good competition.

Wherever he ends up playing next year, he is going to provide some valuable minutes. How many remains to be seen. I’ll go on record and say that he’ll shoot 32-35% from 3 next year.

JStew shot 10/37 (27%) freshman year, improved to 24/66 (36.4%) sophomore year
Solo shot 23/72 (32%) freshman year, improved to 99/232 (41.4%) sophomore year
Ross shot 1/11 (9%) freshman year during garbage time, improved to 10/45 (22.2%) sophomore year with his first real "meaningful minutes"

Again, his form is fine, the kid needs game time and some confidence building. I'd hardly call 45 shots a "pretty large sample. Alex was an abysmal 3pt shooter for a 80+ shot stretch this year. Yet he's been a career 35-40%+ shooter.

Ross is not a 5* phenom and it's just likely we "over-expectationed" him based on early-season/pre-season observations and coach-hype.

Hawk, Martin, Polley, etc. all improved 3pt shooting year-over-year.

I'd like to see Ross stay as I'm fairly confident he'll contribute meaningful and important minutes to a Top-10 team as a Junior. And then as a Senior.

Whaley, Samson, Karaban and now Jayden Ross.

In four of the last six seasons, UConn has been fortunate to have a homegrown senior that embodies the "Blue Collar Blue Blood" mindset Hurley imparts in Storrs.

Shout out to Jayden to working his ass of to become an essential piece of this year's team. He'll be one of my favorites entering next season: I love those team-first glue guys.

JRoss made the jump and got better. Dude grabbed his confidence with both hands. He is well on his way to being a complete player and affecting the game in every way possible.

JRoss returning for his 4th year is tremendously key. The first big solid building block for next year's team. He takes on a veteran leadership role on and off the court, in practice, the locker room, and on DEFENSE. He will be one of the better 1-4 defenders in the conference if not the nation next season. Offensively he is a key player as well. His 3 point shooting, his growing ability to hit mid-range shots in traffic, transition play, being strong with the ball, and his rebounding all huge pluses for this team.

He's gonna be good this year, this is definite.

The kid bleeds blue. Stayed the course, developed, and reaped the rewards. If anyone deserves an amazing senior year it’s Jayden Ross. I expect and hope fans will show him our appreciation. Let’s be real, 9/10 kids like Jayden leave for greener pastures. But not our Jayden and it will turn out the greenest possible!!!! (Pun sort of intended)

You come across as a sarcastic *****.

Work on that. Or don’t.

Coming into his own. Love this kid’s motor. If he can refine his O a bit. He will be a key dude

He's worked hard to get to this point. Love watching him play these last couple of months. Does a little bit of everything

I do wonder if Jacob is back - gets a deep bench spot this year, and carries the Ross torch. Was 250 coming out of HS, but did get an offer from B10 Minnesota.

The PG from Illinois was ranked around there as well, now he’s a lottery pick.

He was a top 75 recruit at one time. I bet there's some talent there, he's probably a little more athletic than Jayden.
