I didn't like his statement that football somehow lower on the pecking order, presumably for resources than basketball. It really isn't an either or distinction. Connecticut is an everything school as shown by the fact that we have four teams ranked in the top 15 right now, three in the top 10.

I'd much rather hear the narrative that the school has a commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level. That "basketball school" label is the excuse that "football schools" use for their basketball ineptitude. We don't need to buy into it.

(And, yeah, joe zone seems to be an idiot every time I've seen him doing anything.)

1. Joe should stick to covering local high school sports.
2. I hope Candle, Dave et al are treating this sort of like Calhoun did in his early days. You can go to Georgetown or Syracuse but you can also come to UConn and beat Georgetown and Syracuse. Just A football variation.

For sure, but fortunately for us the Giants/Jets are more like smart cars than tractor trailers.

Regardless, the point is that there is a love for football in this region. Just like there is basketball. It just needs tapping into. And it will take time. Even if UConn football starts winning, it will take years to build that emotional connection and loyalty/living and dying with every play like we do with UConn basketball. But it can happen.

As a Jet fan, anything labeled Smart (as in Smart Cars) is non starter. With Johnson, he's the dumbest person as an owner.

they read the boneyard's take on their preview and realized all Joe Zone talked about for an hour was how JC is coaching at a bball school... then they scrapped it.

He broke the news about Candle becoming the next coach but was quite open in saying it was that woman news anchor, Erin Connelly, being his source.
