January General CBB Discussion Thread (Non-BE)

It would be cool to see them dominate the Big 12, which would actually look good for us. But yeah getting to No. 1 would be nice
Hum, it's always nice to be ranked #1 in the polls at some point in any given season. But it's tough enough just being UConn and atop the Big East where most conference teams are gunning for us and some see the matchup as their Super Bowl, never mind salivating at the chance to upset #1 and rush the floor.

With all that said, I want us to keep on winning, and run the table, which is extremely hard in any major conference. Extending this year's BE winning streak for another 2 to 3 weeks just might get us to #1 since Zona and Iowa State have a tougher field (B12) to plow.

With that said, we're 0-4 against our next opponent, Seton Hall, at their place the past 4 years when they weren't all that good. This year's team looks like their best in quite sometime. Also, we have to play at Creighton the last day of this month, which other than last season when McNeeley went off for 38 points, has been a nightmare destination. BTW, they beat us at Gampel and MSG last season.

If UConn plays anywhere close to their A-Game, especially against the programs that have given us problems, no BE team should beat us. I'm just not sure if this year's very talented team can do that after pulling out an OT W out of our *ss the other night against PC. We won't be that fortunate to come back from as big a deficit against the upper echelon BE teams.

I know it’s almost certainly not going to happen, but how awesome would it be if Bobby Hurley gave Arizona its first loss this Wednesday? I just keep checking AZ and ISU schedules to look for possible losses. This past weekend I did the same for Michigan and totally dismissed Wisconsin…

Why would we want Arizona to lose when them winning makes us look better.

I guess just cuz they’d have to lose for us to ever be ranked #1 this season. I don’t really care if they do or don’t, but it’d be neat (in my opinion) specifically if ASU beat them because it’d a Hurley family win. I think we already look better than Arizona even with the loss since it has such a big asterisk (in the mind of a homer, anyway) at this point.

AP #1 isn't all that important as long as we get a 1 seed. We should have a seat at that table unless we take an unexpected dip in the BE.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but has Nebraska been brought up? Now at 16-0 and ranked 8th. They didn't get their first votes in the AP poll until week 4 and didn't get into the top 25 until week 6. They have been underdogs on the road their last two games in the Big 10 (if memory is correct) and took care of business both times. Pretty remarkable climb. They have some solid wins to boot (@Illinois, vs Mich St.)

For those of you who follow the different ratings, I would love to see their NET, Kempon, etc.

Great trivia question: Only team in a power conference to never win an NCAA tournament game.

Call me old fashioned, but I still think being ranked #1 in the AP poll is badass. Although I’d never endorse hanging a banner over it.

Don't get me wrong, if the polls put us first in November, December, January, or any other part of the season before tournaments begin I won't be upset and I won't consider saying "no, we don't want it". That said, I'd rather be ranked number one only in the poll after the title game than be ranked number one all weeks except the poll after the title game.

You’ll get no disagreement from me there!

Schnikees! Kansas beating up #2 Iowa State 44-23 at the half. It was 44-18 before Iowa State finished with a 3 and a layup

Would be great for us if KU hangs on against ISU both in terms of our ranking and metrics

KU smacking ISU.

Louisville loses to UVA at home - UVA is good but also Louisville isn't nearly as good as projected. Florida is also playing better as the year goes, that win will look great down the line.
Louisville is not the same team without Mikel Brown.

Of course hope KU holds on but that game’s not nearly over. Iowa State is legit. Although Bill Self might be ritually sacrificed in front of the Naismith’s original rules display if he blows a 26-point home lead.

Sadly, Iowa State has woken up and Kansas has been playing offense like this was wrapped up and it was time for show off playground ball.
