improve to what , an all american? you really he was an all conference player last season right? people talk about him like he is scrub its ridiculous.
I ignore every single one of these reports.

Doesn't change the fact that Brimah has plenty of room to improve over last season (and that he probably will).

Oh my bad! Thought I saw goalie way back when.

Maybe that explains his bad hands lol
if he had such bad hands, wouldn't he register turnovers? in 25 games last season he had 1 turnover or less. oh and he also was 7th in the country in the country in 2pt fg%. If you have bad hands you struggle finishing in the paint, even with easy catch+dunks/lobs. uconn didn't start a single good passer last season, with the exception to hamilton but he was wildly inconsistent/turnover prone.

Jesus man just watch the games. You know that a box score/raw shooting percentages does not tell the tale. If you seriously think Amidah doesn't/didn't have bad hands, you are completely alone here.

You know better.

its just that he's discussed in the same vein as nolan, when it could be argued he is easily our most important player. He will improve, as he did from frosh + sophomore year. just seems like unreasonable expectations by many.

He's undervalued by many on here, but the bold part just isn't true.

youre right , maybe i should start watching more uconn games.

No it just looks like he has goalie gloves on the basketball court once in a while

Kidding. Actually his hands aren't bad at all they just aren't always ready!

Just learn better positioning skills and the rebounds will come

The issue is that he can't get in to position because

a) he goes for blocks, arguably to a fault
b) he isn't strong enough to even get in to/maintain position
when they're punching him in the chest and neck, i want him to go for the ball and foul them so hard they'll think again before they starting hitting him

Ahhh yet another thread that has turned into a b!tchfest about Brimah.

I don't understand how anyone could say a bad thing about him. He's obviously a great kid and a hard worker. This is realistically his first offseason to work on his game and his body and he's certainly filled out. Not to mention he singlehandedly took us from the brink of a first round exit and became an integral cog in a national championship team as a freshman. Yet, we find ways to poke holes in his character or his abilities... unreal.

Whatever Brimah does from here is just gravy. I'm certain he'll do just fine without the boneyard's advisement.

Brimah is pretty decent and improving steadily. His biggest issue is foul trouble and staying on the court.

describing brimahs shotblocking and rim protection as overzelous is foolish; its the pillar of KO defensive scheme. its crazy the way folks discuss rebounding on here... as if uconn was a below average rebounding team or something (they weren't).

People are trying to mold him into Thabeet, whom he's not...if Brimah continues to focus primarily on shotblocking and up his RPG totals to 6-8 per game I'd be a happy camper.

The main thing I wish Brimah would fix is to stop getting boxed out underneath the basket. If he gets pushed down there go around and get back on the court. You can't get any rebounds underneath the backboard, if he is pushed to the foul line at least he could get some long rebounds.

.-.
Amida showed such natural promise as a shotblocker and has such speed for his size! Many of us overestimated where he was at or where he would be at as a sophomore. He is so naturally slender that his adding some pounds suggested some good work on his part. He seems like a great kid and hope he can really come into his own.

If he never scores another basket for us I love the guy, because without that 3 point play we are 1 title less. But his future bank account has potential to skyrocket. This year is huge for him personally.

C'mon everyone do NOT talk about AB and how he can be better. I mean after all this is a basketball discussion board, not a basketball...oh crap!

It's funny no one says he sucks or he doesn't help the team but if you dare say how he can get better people throw the hammer down. Strange . I mean someone twitted some stuff about him and how dare we offer our thoughts on a UConn basketball board. WTF

UConn fans: Got a chance to speak with Amidah Brimah at #AdidasUprising this weekend. Lot of interesting quotes, will tweet a few out now

Brimah on last season: "It was definitely a reality check." Said older players have let them know missing the NCAA Tourney is unacceptable

Brimah on freshman PG Jalen Adams: "Jalen's good, young, talented." Wouldn't compare him to Shabazz or any other former UConn guard

Brimah on the team's depth: "We definitely have depth. Every spot has depth. Last year we didn’t really have competition."

@James you don't think his rebounding can improve? Get stronger? More consistent jump shot? He's not a bad player, but he can definitely improve.

.-.
It's not you mau, but there HAVE been people who've said he doesn't help the team, and more than just one or two.

No doubt he's better, even as is, than most team C's. Just could be really good with some simple mental improvement. I don't even think the physical is all that big of a deal quite honestly. Hopefully just playing games is going to make things become more natural for him because with that there will be noticeable improvements.

The issue is, people want him to be on that Okafor/Thabeet level. Given how gifted he is and how well he's done so far considering his vast deficiencies in terms of experience, it's understandable for people to want him to live up to his potential. But just for some perspective, a center averaging a double-double in rebounding while maintaining 3 BPG and hitting a midrange jumper would probably be the best player in all of CBB period. So with that in mind, people are holding him to an unfair standard. Yes it would be nice for him to be that outstanding, but if he doesn't reach that level it isn't the end of the world. He is already a player that adds a great deal to the team, end-of-season slump aside. Given that this board apparently decried Shabazz as "UConn's worst point guard ever" a few years ago, I think that the criticism he receives here can be unwarranted at times.

I get that but discussing how he can be better is not off limits now is it? We just say "he's as good as he will be" and leave it alone? C'mon we do it with everyone. Somehow he is untouchable because he hasnt' played long. Neither did Eemeka or Thabeet for that matter and I don't want him to be either of them. I want him to be as good as he can be so he has a life in the next level and as of now, or least the end of last season, he's not there. So why not hope he achieves his dreams? I don't get it - everyone berates Rodney and he hardly gets any support in comparison and many things said were much much worst.

ofcourse brimah deserves criticism, he is an abhorrent defensive rebounder. i just find people discuss his flaws much more eagerly than his resounding impact on the floor... rodney deserves more criticism because he wasn't nearly the impact player brimah was and he is older // more hyped. its like people completely ignored his jump in production freshman year to sophomore year , and that includes 10+ mpg and much less fouling ( all while coming off surgery, imagine a full offseason? like this summer?)

I think his hands are fine. His biggest problem to me is that he struggles to get position and if you take away his primary move in the post he has absolutely no counter.
Quite frankly, I agree.
As for the bad hands crowd I don't agree so much - I think it's more about hand strength. Getting stripped or not being strong enough to power through the plays. I hope that helps the understudies.

Brimah is older than Purvis.
