Jacob Furphy interview soon (930am)

I was thrilled to hear some basketball content from Furphy but after 10 minutes I need a break. It just kills me to listen to interviews where the interviewer feels the need to talk more than the person being interviewed. Ask a concise question, please.

I hate the guys that make a long statement, then ask "Do you agree?" Joe D was a master.
I hate when the interviewer asks an expert guest what their take is on something,...the guest gives an interesting, compelling answer and finishes....followed by dead air for 6 seconds....the interviewer hasn't been listening and doesn't follow up on what the guest has just compelling said. Instead, the "interviewer" idiotically proceeds to ask the guest a question on a totally different subject. Just going down his list of questions ...

Yeah he's a disaster of an interviewer. All about himself. (Sorry if you post on here!)

In fairness, though, JF was a bit reserved and didn't give long winded answers or get into a lot of detail. My guess is the interviewer had to fill a lot of dead space to make it last 30 minutes he needed for his podcast.

A good interviewer doesn’t let that happen. They follow up on the point made and go a little deeper with a question about what in his past may have led to that. Pretty simple to do. They also should have a bunch of prepared topics to explore. It really never should be on the guest to fill up the interview time.

How is his defense? That’s the determining factor for his PT.
He said that is one thing he needs to work on.

"I think right now, my defense is the thing I'm lacking in," Furphy confessed. "I've made huge leaps in the last couple of months in that aspect, because it's what I've been told it's what I need to work on."

Here's the thread with that article if you missed it.

That is the interveiwers fault. A good interviewer knows how to draw guests out and make them feel comfortable. Don't rush to fill dead air, give the guest space, expect them to fill it. Listen for interesting bits and follow up.

I agree. This podcaster loves his own voice.

I’m sure Furphy is talented basketball skill wise but to survive in the BE you have to be tough, muscular and willing to fight it out even at his position for rebounds. He’s not starting with that kind of build and strength which would help him on defense, at least to appearances. We will see by December or January on that toughness. Our 3 other guards have that in my mind.
