Just did some preliminary research on Jackson State WBB. The website was not as friendly as I would have liked. I am not a real tech person anyway.
Their league is not real strong and they went 18-0 during the season. Best info I gathered was they are a very guard oriented team. Their 5 best players are all guards. They do have some size for guards with 6'1, 6'1, 6'0 and 5'8, 5'8. They spread the scoring among the 5 players and They take turns being high scorer. They average 12-15 pts. each. They can shoot the 3. They have 3 players that shoot the 3 decent. Overall their shooting % is in the 38-42% range. On their website I could not find the season totals so I had to look at many games. It seems they are one on one players because their assists are generally low. Saw a few games where they had only 6 or 7 assists total. They do get to the line alot. They shot many free throws.
Finally, they have 3 players that are 6'5 or 6'6. However, they are not the leaders on the team and their minutes are low.
I figured this could be a start with the insights about Jackson State. I am sure others can add more pertinent info.

Maybe it's a typo, but Angel Jackson is listed at 6'6" and plays guard and averages 25 min/g 10 pts.

The rest of the main players by playing time (>15 mins) are:

Miya Crump at 6'1" 27 mins 12 pts
Ti'lan Boler at 6'1' 26 mins 12 pts
Keshuna Lockett at 5'8" 23 mins 7 pts
Zakiya Mahoney at 5'10" 18 mins 5 pts
Daphane White at 6'5" 16 mins 9 pts

They play a pretty deep rotation going 11 deep for at least 10 mins/g, and 16 deep total.

Regarding height, they have a 6'6" player, Jackson, who starts, plays about 25 minutes, and averages about 10 and 7.

Another big, 6'5" Walker, plays about 10 minutes a game averages 3 and 3.5.

The third, White, 6'5", tore her ACL in January.

It looks like they have a height advantage.

They also average over 17 fouls a game, including 24 in their conference championship game.

So it may be one of those UCF kind of games. Lace them up and practice your free throws.

This game should be zero anxiety for UConn. They have a taller player but they aren't a team that can hold up to UConn for a full game and in the end UConn will win by as many as they want. They will have to show up and compete, if they do it will be on to the next round.

Watching bits of the game linked above, I have to wonder if JSU has faced any serious defensive intensity this season. That's where the difference will lie. They are big and mostly pretty quick. But it doesn't look like their passing is very crisp, and their shooting is only so-so. They average 12 assists and 15 TOs per game. They are a good rebounding team.

Can’t take a team like this lightly. Jackson state has beat st John’s but lost to Texas, Oregon state., Kstate. They will be playing very loose . they out rebounded Texas especially Offensive bds. I expect us to beat them but can not give a team like this any life.

Texas (top) beat them by 45, Kansas State (bottom) by 42. Here are their box scores from those games:

I saw a team picture of the Jackson State team = 6'6" is NOT a typo. One 6'5" appears to no
longer be with the team. ( see above, an ACL injury ) She played in the initial 9 games. NO stats since that time.

21 game win streak. Competed with Miami and MissSt.
Never underestimate an opponent, a truism. But Jackson State lost to both Miami 59 - 52 and
Miss. St 82 - 72 (see their schedule and results above) . Miami is neither in the NCAA's nor the WBIT (i.e.
not in the top 100 WBB programs. Mississippi St is in the WBIT... therefore, not in the top 68
WBB programs. I worry about fouls and other possible effects of UCONN's short bench. GO HUSKIES!

I watched their SWAC Championship game against Alcorn State. They are a tough team that likes to press but it is an easy press to break, not like Ohio State's press but they press a lot. They are fun to watch.

I looked at their schedule and results on a site with team ratings and was surprised to see that they have not lost in 2024. On the other hand all the teams they beat were below average, mostly because the conference competition is terrible. They also never beat an above average team, which was all their losses. Very strange results. By above or below average I mean ranked compared to all 365 or whatever the total of Division I teams is now.

UConn needs to take every opponent seriously..........in this case, if they jump on them early Jackson State doesn't appear to be the kind of team that's going to go on long scoring runs to get back in the game........

I watched Jackson St. defeat Alcorn in their finals by 24. Jackson hoisted 28 3’s and took 34 free throws. I don’t see that happening against us. On the defensive side, they did hold Alcorn to 44 pts., but was not impressed with their D. Their switching was poor and the guards did a lot of reaching. With Aaliya and Ice dominating the defensive boards I think our transition O will overwhelm State. With that being said, IMHO, I think we drop 90 on them and Jackson will be lucky to break 50. Just saying.

Yeah, sounds about right. Run, run, run, and in the halfcourt set I would run high pick and rolls at them all day, they don't seen to know how to defend that. Paige could go for 40.
