The great Ivy poach commences. Expect some good players transferring very soon.

I remember studying him a bit, did a post awhile back on the BY of potential grad transfers to look out for and he was one of them. He’s far from the quickest guy out there but kid is a sniper, career 45% 3 point shooter. I’ll be curious to see how he does.

Seems like of late, the Ivy League has become the grad transfer league. So many high name kids have left of late to finish out their careers at power conferences. Between them cancelling seasons and their odd eligibility rules, it’s allowed for a lot of talented kids to leave the league.

Forget the fans...some people don’t seem to understand how devastating this is to the kids who play...whether it’s Ivy League, a higher level league, or even high school sports, these kids who are really hurt. They dedicate their lives to their sports and many attach being an athlete to their identity (whether that’s right or wrong). Remember how crushed Akok was when he tore his Achilles? That’s exactly how these kids feel when their sports get cancelled.

You’re right the football season is going great. Let me just double check how many games are canceled this weeke-..oh, oh no.
Did you miss the fact they are playing? That is the point.

Everyone knew games would be postponed or cancelled.

The Ivies actually do care about their sports programs. Yale hockey and lacrosse won national titles over the past 10 years.

Yup it does. Both my kids started the year with all kinds of on-campus restrictions and hybrid classes. Both school have gone to strictly online classes and with more social restrictions than you can imagine. They are ready to come home because they said college life stinks right now. In less than 2 weeks they will be home for at least 2 months.

And don't remind me how much I'm paying for all this. They said the online classes are boring and they're not getting as much out of them. The professors have started to let up because they can feel how unhappy and stressed all the students are. Makes me rethink whether it was worth sending them for the year.
Yup.

My younger daughter is in grad school at GW. All virtual and half the point of Biz school is who you meet. And oh boy the $$$$ for g dub.

More like Ivy League doesn’t want to shell out the cash to keep up to date with COVID protocols.

Yeah, like the Ivies are strapped for cash. Have you ever checked out their endowments, CT? Ha!

No, I think the Ivy is always the right model for college sports. They actually think it through completely because they DON'T have to worry about paying for things like COVID protocols.

Ivies have a much higher percentage of their students playing more sports than schools like UCONN & have a much longer record of excellence in college athletics as well. Princeton for example, leads UConn in NCAA Championships 28 to 23. And most of UConn's are Women's Basketball & Field Hockey.

Here are the years Princeton claimed NCAA Championships (all were in football and only 15 are currently recognized by the NCAA):
1869, 1870, 1872, 1873, 1874, 1875, 1877, 1878, 1879, 1880, 1881, 1884, 1885, 1886, 1889, 1893, 1894, 1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1906, 1911, 1920, 1922, 1933, 1935, and 1950.

And your point for this statistic is what?

Nobody gives a about Ivy League sports and you would've come over on the Mayflower if you were around to watch Princeton or Yale win anything in football.

Princeton can claim they won it all in 1950 as much as they would like but Oklahoma won the national championship. The last time the Ivy League won a championship in football was in the 1920's.

May be true but the fact remains Brown has played in more Rose Bowls than UConn.

The Ivy League has outstanding wrestling, those are the athletes I feel the worse for. If any of the sports could pull it off the best it would probably be wrestling as far as discipline they have to cut weight as it is.

They basically study work out and sleep in their off time. Also have fewer numbers they could definitely pull off a bubble and even live in one. Missing 2 years of not competing for a national championship (individually especially) has to suck.

Some more poaching:

Harvard's Rio Haskett will spend his grad transfer year at Hampton. After playing a depth role at Harvard, big chance for him to be a lead scorer for Hampton.

HBCUs continuing to add quality talent.
