Here are the schools that matter - Our Peers:
Dating back to 1998-99, the season both programs broke through, Michigan State reaching its first Final Four in 20 years and UConn its first ever, the NCAA tournament records among the bluebloods looks like this:
1.) Michigan State -- 40-14, six Final Fours, one national championship;
2.) Duke -- 39-13, four Final Fours, two national championships;
3.) Kansas -- 39-15, four Final Fours, one national championship;
4.) UConn -- 35-8 , four Final Fours, three national championships;
5.) Florida -- 33-10, three Final Fours, two national championships;
6.) North Carolina -- 34-11, four Final Fours, two national championships;
7.) Kentucky -- 33-12, two Final Fours, one national championship;
8.) Louisville -- 24-12, three Final Fours, one national championship.
UConn has - from the CT Post article - gone farther (avg. 2.91 wins per NCAA appearance) than any of these. And for our Cincinnati friend (Paydirt?), there is no reason to go back 50 years; that was a far different game (and some of us saw some of those games ... ahem).
The reason why Syracuse, while admittedly BRAND X of the 35,000 attendance, is not a Blue Blood National Power ... is the above. And with Kevin Ollie, UConn has thrown down the line to Boeheim and others: can you move beyond your legendary coach to a new ERA. I don't think anyone will get near the success Ollie is going to have. (I thought that early ... I was anti-Freescooter always)
