Im in no way saying that I want Calhoun to step down but it would be nice to see what Kevin Ollie can do. I mean its not that far off in the future that we all have to become fans of Uconn without Calhoun. Simply put, what is the point of letting Blaney, who is older than Calhoun, coach? George Blaney is in no way part of Uconn basketball's future. Hes shown that at best we will be .500 with him running the show. No upside to Blaney. Plenty of potential upside with Ollie. And at least we would get a clearer picture of how capable he would be as Calhoun's successor.
Just bought a new Jaguar. My Nephew has had his permit for 2 months. I'm going to let him drive that baby to school every day. Up until now, he's always driven his mother's 1987 Aerostar, with her sitting next to him, but he was real good at the bumper cars at lake Compounce, so I'm sure he'll be fine...

I said it was time when we lost in the NIT to Jackson State in 1993. I'm glad I was an idiot and nobody listened to me.

You guys are so brutal. a person comes on the site to post his feelings about a situation and he gets bashed in so many ways. Some people just have no class and its all about them and how they feel. Then someone has the right to insult his name, what is wrong with some people.
I agree with you Henry. Has he earned the right to coach until he's 90, YES. But I don't want to see him turn into a Paterno and have many years of mediocrity. Just my point and feelings

That makes no sense. Blaney is the Aerostar and Ollie would be the Jag. Nice try tho.

Thanks for defending me. You missed my comeback to Drewdog85. I told him he must be mad at his parents for naming him Drewdog85. He gave me a like and acknowledged that point. He was a good sport about it. Interestingly, I laid off making any more comments and have noticed that some people see my point. I meant no disrespect to Coach Calhoun but these are realities that all programs need to face at some point.

I would assume that most of the NBA guys would support Ollie seeing as he played in the league with most of them, and by all accounts he is respected by all. Im not sure it really matters what Blaney thinks seeing as he is most likely gone when Calhoun leaves. Nobody really knows what to expect of the new AD, so that part is unclear. I personally think Kevin Ollie would make a great head coach, and Im pissed that he wasnt given a shot this year.

Kevin Ollie isnt ready to be a head coach of a big program like UCONN. We should be trying to lure Brad Stevens or at least Shaka Smart if we can after Calhoun retires. Ollie looks as lost on the bench as Drummond does on free throws. Brad Stevens is the guy I would go after because if he is a miracle workers by leading a school and a team like Butler full of the most mediocre of players to back to back finals than imagine what he can do at UCONN.

I respect the opinion that Ollie may not be ready. The truth of the matter is that none of us actually know for sure.

But what possible support can you have for saying "Ollie looks as lost on the bench as Drummond does on free throws." What in the world are you talking about?

Hey don't be so harsh, keep in mind that Huskymagic has a good eye for talent and a very well informed opinion. For example he made the point a few posts ago that we should be going after 2 of the top recruits in the country, and when they come to UConn we'll win another championship in 2 years. These types of posters dont grow on trees, and we should be both proud and humbled that he chooses to share his insights with us.

I get where you are going with this but your nephew may darn well be ready to drive that Jaguar. If you want to continue down this path:

Who do you want driving your classic Shelby Mustang (manual transmission)? One of the guys with experience only driving a new Ford (automatic) around? Or the guy that learned to drive and has taken driving lessons from the person who built the Shelby? One is new to manual transmission and one is new to driving solo. I take the second guy.

Except that nobody is talking about making Blaney the next head coach. Guess you missed my point...

lol this was a well thought out post. I like it, and I dont really care if we get Nerlens I just want us to somehow get Devonta because he is going to be good.

thanks for the compliment. this leads us back to our original discussion of perception vs reality, and the reality is that we're highly unlikely to get either one of these guys. trust me i'd be just as excited as you if they signed (although i'd rather have Nerlens), i just think its a long long long shot.
