*king awful post.

Calhoun JUST WON A *KING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP LAST YEAR. This is not Joe Parterno. People are scared off by the number 70, but if he's still got the fire, why not?

And now as I read this thread further I see this same poster minimizing Calhoun's success from last year by mentioning Kemba. That might be the second worst post of all-time, next to only the first post made in this thread.

Remember last time people were calling for the old man to retire? I have visions of these same posts in the year 2017 when Calhoun is coming off his 5th title.

Assuming the tounament ban is not lifted for next year, it is time for Coach Calhoun to consider stepping down.

I'm going to motion for something, and I want the mods to consider it. Really.
If you want to second my motion, either reply or like this post.
Again, I'm being serious.

Anybody who writes, suggests, or remotely implies that Calhoun "should" step down should be immediately perma-banned from the Boneyard.

Some things should just not be said.

This is different than last year and 2010. Last year we had Kemba, we don't have him anymore and things are not looking up. Thanks JC for a great two decades but there always comes a time to move on. Yes, he is the reason we won three national titles but he is also the reason we're on probation and won't be eligible for the tournament next year, you can't praise the guy but say the negative things aren't his fault, it isn't a one way street. Yes the guy is everything to this program but if we don't move on we may never recover. I don't want to end up like Indiana

While I strongly disagree with this thread from Henry you can not ban him - I am all for free speech no mater how many stupid things people say.

Bet you 10 bucks I am a bigger free speech proponent than are you.
That said, this is a private message board, and private organizations/groups have an absolute right to restrict any speech they want. The NAACP should not have to listen to racist garbage, and the KKK should not have to listen to reason.

Oh. And a message board created and run for the purpose of group enjoyment of UConn basketball should be able to and can put any restrictions on speech that they want.

Great reply. Your college education has sure paid off. If you notice I did not criticize Calhoun's coaching just stated the facts. Plus, the same comments were there 2 years ago and look what that class lead to. It lead to next year's ban. Based on how this year's group has played can you seriously say it was Calhoun's coaching and not Kemba's clutch play that lead to the NC? We were lousy heading into the Big East Tournament last year and Kemba carried us for 11 games. Do you really think we can recruit top talent under the circumstances? Gene Keady helped transition Matt Painter to coach at Purdue. Coach Calhoun may have earned the right to coach as long as he wants but is that best for the program?

Your right Henry that it wasn't really Calhoun but Kemba who willed us to a championship last year but don't worry all we need to do is repeat as champs and that means no probation for us. We need to start recruiting better players on the perimeter especially though you are right about that. We need to be going hard on Devonta Pollard who is a 6'9, 6'10 guy who is the next lamar odom in waiting. Thats a guy we need to try to get and if not settle for Obekpa if we can get him.

Assuming the tounament ban is not lifted for next year, it is time for Coach Calhoun to consider stepping down. If there is no tournament next year, Lamb and Drummond will leave this year, Omar Calhoun will probably reconsider and it will be more difficult to recruit for 2013-14. How many kids will be willing to commit to a school with a coach who would be 72 years old and has missed time for multiple health issues? In the 90's, Rick Pitino was able to rebuild at Kentucky while they were banned from the tournament and on probation. We will never see another coach like Jim Calhoun at UCONN but if he really wants what is best for the school he will help us transition to a new coach. I would like to thank him for all he has done for us, the school and UCONN basketball but it is time.

You are actually aware that he just won his 3rd NATIONAL TITLE last year, right. How your brain wired it's synapses together to come up with some dumb like this is truly epic.

can you get it through your head that this isn't about last year, this is about best positioning our program for the future

I'm not sure exactly what your point is here, are you saying that the people who post here should all think that Calhoun should coach as long as he wants? Or that we're the #1 team in the country even if we've lost 6 of 7? Or that we won't be banned from the tournament next year?

I appreciate everyone's passion as much as the next guy, but the blinders some posters have on this board are just ridiculous at times.

Then I consider you a short timer. JC built the program, let the man go out as he wants when he wants. Hank hold your powder.

Sorry for being a new member. I've only watched UCONN basketball since 1980.

Um the future isn't that bright without Calhoun moron. Two final fours and a championship in three years.

Right because since 2006 this program has done great things...
If you're being sarcastic, this is silly.

2 Final Fours and 1 National Title are things teams would kill for.

That's better than the entire history of UConn up to 2003.

You realize UConn is tied with the 2nd most final fours since 2006 with UNC, Florida and Michigan St right?

Listen. It's not blinders. It's a very, very simple analysis and conclusion.

BUT NOT for Jim Calhoun, we're DePaul. Or Providence. And you bitching about the coach who's been here 26 years would be fine.

But see, UConn basketball is what it is BECAUSE of Jim Calhoun.

THEREFORE, when it's "time" for Jim Calhoun to go does not require any basketball acumen. No analysis. No removal of blinders.

THE TIME for Jim Calhoun to go is WHEN HE WANTS TO GO.

Got that? That is sacrosanct. Kemba Walker wins the title in CT only because JC took the job in 1986 (a great year, BTW). That's it. If you don't get that, then you're beyond my help.

He goes when he wants to go, either now, or in 10 years, because he EARNED it, and we OWE him that.

Okay?

I think that some things in some places should be beyond polite conversation.

Here, I think there should not be more than a few. The first should be this . . .

1. Thou shalt not say or imply that Jim Calhoun should retire.

Good. Keep posts like this coming. In fact, I hope the national and local media starts writing crap like this, too. Calhoun is at his best when everyone is doubting him. He is a fighter, and as long as he can physically coach, he will keep putting out teams that fight deep into the tournament.

Love your passion on this subject and agree with you but you still can not ban him.

I refuse to subscribe to the absurd "Person X can retire when they decide to" theory. No one person should ever be bigger than a program. Practice what you preach.

However, Jim Calhoun won a National Championship last year, and anyone calling for him to leave is out of their mind. I don't know if he can physically do it anymore. But coaching? Hell yes.
