Meh. Dumbest idea ever? Hardly. Hyperbole. And to be honest, as much as I love women's college sports (and pro sports), the fact remains that it's light years less profitable than men's college sports. Unless the interest and demand for the product increases, there is no way the women's college teams will get all the perks the men's teams do.

Women's professional tennis may be the only sport where interest and demand are close to men's, and where the women enjoy equal popularity and fame, and the coverage reflects that. Unless that changes for other sports, women will always make less, have less coverage, and have less perks.

If the networks push it as a means to reduce costs etc, so be it but for the WCBB to advocate this for themselves, that seems pretty dumb to me.

It's mostly about the product and the fan base. Sports fans are mostly male and most male sports fans (and some women) look down on women's sports as being inferior.

Although I do seem to recall more and more comments by the sports commentary community that the best CBB playoff games were on the women's side. Other than the Duke / NC Coach K theme, the men's games with no player recognition due to one and done was pretty bleech.

Yup, that's how it seemed to me the past couple years. Team identity among the men's teams is pretty thin these days.

I don’t think this has anything to do with the question of whether the women’s tournament should be held in a separate location from the men’s. That question should be resolved on the basis of what best serves student athletes and how those athletes should be treated fairly.

Mentioned in the article on Geno is the fan experience. I dont think anyone else mentioned it. Having been to 10 final fours, it is difficult enough to get hotels and flights as well as places to eat for most of the womens final fours without doubling the number of fans in combining mens and women's final fours. This is typical NCAA bureaucratic brainstorming. Ill bet the powers that be have their reservations made and paid for by the NCAAN. So they dont have to fight for them.

Gymnastics and figure skating also. I would think that female gymnasts do better financially than their male counterparts. More people tune into those sports to see artistry where females excel.

I've always been of the opinion that wbb should reinterpret the way the game is played with more emphasis on fluidity and skill and less on contact and strength.

Men’s & Women’s FF at the same place. Sure! Why not? So long as they split all the revenues 50/50……..
Oldude: That's the dumbest thing I've ever read! 70/30 is a reasonable split, I would believe. Does any one really watch THE MEN?
I take a minor offense to the belief Males are sports fans (1) Males don't watch Women's Sports (2). In my last physical--my female doctor (one of the very best the VA has, superb MD) assured me --yep, you are a Male.
With that in my head I do like women sports and sports that are women. My daughters broke or bent some barriers, with my blessing--equality should mean equality of opportunity. Then it's . up to you.
For many years i was a Uconn Men's BB team follower--the game changed or I did It was no longer fun to watch. I watched the Pro's superb basketball --until--the change got to them. I like Basketball and I like hockey but not at the same time.

Should Women and Men (college) Basketball Championships be co-located. Ok as long as every part of it remains separated.

We, fans, have gotten too carried away with ---Men attract more fans. Maybe. I like some wines, but not all. I buy what I like, I watch what I like. If the seats are available in the Women's NC--put me in one. You couldn't give me a seat in the Men's game.
Point is, Women's basketball isn't for everyone, nor is the men's game. Accept the differences including the attendance, it is what it is. True fans will follow, the numbers are the numbers.

for the millionth time this debate NEEDS TO END. The ncaa mens tourny makes 300 million dollars, the womens loses 2.5 million. I don't understand why this keeps getting brought up? Don't people realize REVENUE is what decides who gets what.

On having the final 4 same site why on earth does that matter? So if the final 4 is in Arizona that means the men will get to play in State Farm stadium, the women will play where the suns/mercury play in Footprint center. What does that accomplish? So tired of everything having to do with equality when this is not a men/women issue, it's about revenue and what the tournament brings.

Should just make a permanent site in Las Vegas. More then enough rooms, great entertainment. They might even build a special arena for the final four.

Next time you are at a WCBB game take a head count of the men in attendance. After you count the number of heads consider their hair color. Just like the BY I'll bet it's mostly gray, white or non existant.

I think Vegas as a permanent site would eventually hurt attendance. It’s certainly not for everyone and for some people it would be a ‘one and done’. I went once 20 years ago and will probably never go back.

Indianapolis isn't for everybody either. And if you were to look you'd see that Vegas does have something for everyone. And the prices for rooms and food fit almost any budget.

And maybe it would shut up the west coast whiners.

And the weather is very nice in Vegas that time of year. One day trip to Laughlin on the Colorado River is always fun. Take a ride on the river boats

The casinos have Windows there so you can see the river.

Spent a few days there about 15 years ago. Like a frontier town in the middle of nowhere. Coming from Ariz. you go down down down through rock canyons to a road running along the Colorado and it's nothing but water and rock. I went around a corner and Laughlin appeared like a surreal image. Two or 3 blocks long. I stayed at a Hilton for $34 and had a nice time for a couple of days. A river ride would be nice on a hot day.

Sounds fair, of course that means that the rest of NCAA sports will go unfunded which seems decidedly unfair.

The NCAA is looking at tis concept from a business point of view. We're looking at it from a fan's perspective. Aside from the challenges of travel, dining and hotel accommodations, I think having both final fours in the same venue would be profitable. I've never been to a final four, so I can't argue against Geno's takes here. He sees issues I don't and can't appreciate. I would love to attend a women's final four, but only if UConn is in it.

There are lots of venues (cities) across the country that could handle a combined final four. I'm admittedly being selfish and biased when I suggest Las Vegas as a potential site. Getting there, finding a hotel room and experiencing fine dining would not be a problem. You could get a room that weekend WITHOUT a reservation. There are thousands of hotel rooms in Las Vegas to fit every budget from the Strat Hotel $33 per night) to the Aria (from $564 per night). Hundreds of excellent places to dine. Stage shows to die for, not to mention all of the casinos awaiting your pleasure. Who doesn't like going to Las Vegas? Right Serg?

They have multiple venues in the city that could handle a final four audience. You could not tell there was a final four in the city that weekend. Las Vegas is use to large crowds of tourists and weekend warriors EVERY WEEKEND. They can handle it!! Four conferences have their end of season tournaments there every year. The NFL Raiders play 10 games a year there to near capacity (65,000) crowds at Allegiant Stadium. It will probably never happen, but if it does, I'm there. ;)
