Went head to head against them two years in a row for two guys that were clearly high priority and that we clearly wanted badly. There is no sugar-coating or rose-colored glasses to put on this. I don't mind losing to KY on a recruit, but given the Stars we had aligned this year, to whiff as badly as we did, to VCU, is a problem. Fishy was right, we need a big time recruiter.

Larrier was a priority, but he only became a priority for us late. Similarly with Mack, who was never a really high priority since we are well stocked at the perimeter spots for at least one more year.

Who cares? It's far more about what you do with kids once you get them on campus than who you get coming out of HS. This is nothing new for the program, whether we're losing out to VCU or Duke/UNC/Kansas. They didn't come to UConn, that's all that matters.

Reading all of Mack's stuff from the last few days it's clear that 1) he was a VCU lean all along 2) playing time was his top priority. You can't blame a kid for wanting to play as early and as often as possible. You have to go to a lesser program to do that.

It's depressing. I thought they had a decent program until I did research and found out they have only 1 Sweet 16 in their history. And that was a fluke that they got in

They're kinda like a fledgling Syracuse - play a trademark D, get all the recruits that we try to get, and they still have less championships combined than Shabazz Napier.

We did lose to them for Larrier and Mack which seems pathetic on the face of it. VCU was recruiting both guys for like two years and we jumped in and recruited them for 2 months but still you would hope we could jump in late and still get a kid when it's between us and VCU.

Yes it is over for uconn recruiting! Seriously recruiting has been down since the end of Calhoun's year right after he got that big recruiting class with dyson, thabeet and Robinson. We have gotten some good recruits but it always seems like a battle to get 40-60 recruits than before. Oh well keep winning and recruiting will take care of itself.

It is not just about the school and the coach. There is location of school and climate.
UConn has 5-6 guys who will be in NBA camps.

No matter how you slice it or dice it - UConn is a program in the stratosphere while UVCU (now known as) still hasn't broken the speed of sound - yeah 1 FF year - so don't a ton of other programs. Butler has two NC games but wouldn't put them in the elite area. Where UConn flies, there's a lot of empty space
I'd love to hear KO respond on the 3 or 4 who announced yesterday and today BUT as he told Joe D there's going to be exciting news in next FEW weeks
In KO I trust

They own us?!? VCU?? Come on, 2-2 head-to-head is not owning someone! Too many Chicken Little's running around here today. Step back for a moment....we have two great recruits committed already...one of which we beat VCU on BTW and we have a chance at another great one next week. Even if we don't get him...we'll be fine! We don't NEED any new guys at the moment. Even if we suddenly do... we have next spring as well...and someone always seem to turn up who can help us. Today's disappointing...but that's all it is. Nothing more...no blanket statement about the program or our recruiting or conference affiliation. KO has lots of irons in the fire...and when the next "UConn-worthy" recruit realizes the opportunity in front of him, we'll get him!! Keep the faith guys!

"Went head to head against them two years in a row for two guys that were clearly high priority and that we clearly wanted badly." Not 100% true

Terry Larrier committed to VCU in September last year. UConn was first connected to him in July of the same year. That is only two months of him being recruited by UConn. Not to mention, Shaka Smart had been recruiting Larrier for close to 2 years and made him his top priority.

Tevin Mack was the last of 3 SFs offered by UConn. The staff had been talking to him since July and offered him in September. Again, that is only two months of serious recruiting. VCU offered Mack in April and had been connected to him for longer than that as well as making him a top priority also.

VCU isn't a nobody program anymore. You can't just waltz in and take their recruits like before. Credit Shaka Smart for identifying his target early and sticking to him to the end.

If ollie lands stone, look for him to really go after malik newman hard. with briscoe headed to kentucky potenially with blakeny,UK will have(briscoe, blakeny, ullis, and potenially arron harrison all in the backcourt. Malik has made it clear that he desires playing time and to be on a contender. soi think hed cross of kentucky. But if UCONN already has his buddy stone who he has made clear he wants to play with and a scholly open then i think UCONN becomes a major player in his recruitment
