It’s been long enough: no message from Mora

Somehow you thought I didn't know that? I was there. Until the end. Decided late. Barely double digits.

It wasn't even a contest in the second half and it was a snoozer. It looked like every other game Air Force lost that season. Sort of close but not really in it. Honestly, I wonder if the sky in your world is a different color.

You know, if you REALLY want to twist the narrative it's not unreasonable to say that Mora did UCONN football a favor leaving in the fashion he chose. The 'coded' message could simply be, 'I did what I could with the level of resources allocated to the program. To go further and compete for Big Prizes will require a substantially higher degree of investment. I asked for this repeatedly, both from the Administration and the fan base but those requests were not sufficiently answered.'

E.g. - 'Hey, UCONN football supporters and UCONN athletic administration-with the present football budget this (9-10 wins against a piecemeal schedule, no P5 respect and a middling bowl game) is as far as this place is gonna go, and you'll continue to have difficulty attracting and retaining players and competent coaches if UCONN Nation doesn't step up their game in a major, major way.'

Like I said, it's twisted. but that is how I'm choosing to look at it, as a referendum on where this program can go in the future. The personal stuff is really irrelevant.
I don't think this is correct.

As Big 12 expansion rumors boil, UConn pours NIL money into football: ‘Tired of being disrespected’

The Huskies raised and spent about $100,000 last season through NIL efforts. This season, the number is up ten-fold, to somewhere between $1-1.25 million.
That is something Benedict was willing to discuss.

“We’re going to double it next year, at least,” he said. “We’re going to pour gas on it. We’re going to win in football. I’m tired of being disrespected as a brand, nationally, because of football. And I get it. But the difference as we sit here today is we have NIL and revenue sharing now.

The goal is for $2-3 million to be shared with, say, 40 players of high expectations next offseason, giving UConn the size, depth and talent needed in an effort to show that the program can be more than something basketball and university support drags along.

“I’m not sure how many people did more than we did, in the Group of Five,” Benedict said of programs unaffiliated with power conferences. “It’s difficult to say where we stand because there’s no ledger of, here’s the list of what everyone did around the country in the Group of Five. But if we’re not in the top five, I’d be surprised.

“The realty of a year ago is, there was no emphasis on it. There wasn’t a plan. It was still something that, collectively, everyone was trying to figure out the best approach with. Last year, we made a decision that this was something we had to get in the business of and we quickly were able to organize and have people lead an effort that aggregated resources that put us in the very top echelon in the Group of Five.”

2-3 Million is not that much amongst 40 players, when you consider the top 5-6 will get probably 60% of the money. Hell, higher end QBs go for anywhere between 1 and 5 million alone.

And that overall amount still isn't enough to raise the program to another tier. You want premium horseflesh, the minimum ask should be 7-8MM and let's be honest 10MM.

We need a benefactor on the order what Larry Ellison has been to Michigan. Maybe Benedict should call up Point 72 and ask - very nicely - for a meeting with Steve Cohen. And then when he's done with Steve, his next call should be to Ray Dalio.

The jilted lover vibe in this thread is... weird.
It's not weird at all. I don't care that he left but not thanking everyone is pathetic and goes against everything he preaches. He wasn't fired, everyone treated him really well. To bounce out of town without acknowledging the University, players, fans, other coaches, and the state shows a lack of character. It's the easiest thing to do and he didn't do it.

Don't really care how he left but it does interest me because of what it might mean for the future. It was abrupt with none of the usual grace notes. More interested in WHERE he went and what that says.

What you owe and what you give are two different things. What you give is what defines you
Having said that Lamont and Benedict took the high road but a Mora like silence from the person who is at the mid point of that reporting relationship. It is clear the ball was dropped in regards to what needed to be a quick negotiations turnaround by the institutional sign off. That is a major failure. The two people who look bad in this is Mora and the President of UConn.
there's been some other awkward moments during Mora's tenure that we kind of overlooked but he had some moments where he did show some local committment.

On the other hand, it does limit the amount of players he takes with him. money does talk in a lot of ways but leaving a sour taste doesn't help.

Look, if it were me I would release a boilerplate "thank you for" etc., etc., etc. I would give the players an hour of lead time to thank them for their work on my behalf.

Who knows.

He doesn't owe D'Amellio a call but I don't think D'Amellio suggests that he did either.

----
Edsall leaving the way he did was sour because of the all the hype that was talked about Edsall being a man of character and how he built up the program. Mora was always kind of a hired gun so I don't see this as bad, but I have no problem with people having a bit of a bad taste.

Are you saying that Radenka Maric did not sign off on a raise for Mora?

.-.
The move was never about money from what I am hearing. He wanted to be closer to home. Uconn not getting into a power conference, our team losing a lot of players after this year, or thinking that he got Uconn as far as he could get them without Power 4 money may or may not had any impact on Mora's thinking. Who knows. I think the board needs to accept the fact Mora didn't want to be here anymore. I thank him for job well done but we need to move on to the next hire and hope that he can even improve on the job that Mora did here.

Stop the clock!!

As I wrote on another post, he doesn't think we're worth his time anymore. He was lauded by many, including myself, as finally being an adult in the room...yet the whole sneaking off in the dead of night without any final words or well wishes to the school and fans who grew to love him is piss poor and reeks of petulance. He got us to 2 winning seasons, 3 bowls, but left before getting us an elusive 10th win. I called him a coward for how he left, and I am disgusted with how he just ghosted the UConn community.
Everything in life is temporary, for better or worse. Get over it
