It’s been long enough: no message from Mora

Yes, probably. And Fort Collins is only a quick private plane ride away from Sun Valley. If he doesn't own a plane I am sure that a booster can take him back and forth.
He’s got enough to fly private every week if he wants to. He’ll be drawing a huge paycheck and he’s already extremely wealthy. When Mora Sr goes, he’ll have even more.

You know, if you REALLY want to twist the narrative it's not unreasonable to say that Mora did UCONN football a favor leaving in the fashion he chose. The 'coded' message could simply be, 'I did what I could with the level of resources allocated to the program. To go further and compete for Big Prizes will require a substantially higher degree of investment. I asked for this repeatedly, both from the Administration and the fan base but those requests were not sufficiently answered.'

E.g. - 'Hey, UCONN football supporters and UCONN athletic administration-with the present football budget this (9-10 wins against a piecemeal schedule, no P5 respect and a middling bowl game) is as far as this place is gonna go, and you'll continue to have difficulty attracting and retaining players and competent coaches if UCONN Nation doesn't step up their game in a major, major way.'

Like I said, it's twisted. but that is how I'm choosing to look at it, as a referendum on where this program can go in the future. The personal stuff is really irrelevant.

...I don't get people who are giving him a pass.
I'll try to help you out a little.

I'm not sure of your age (you don't need to tell), or of how long you've been supporting the UConn football team (you also don't need to tell). As someone who has been supporting and buying football tickets for decades, let me give you my perspective:

It's extremely hard to continue to go to a football stadium that is 70% empty, cheering your heart out for a team that doesn't win more than 3 games a year. Even love for the team almost isn't enough. I can't tell you how many times my son and I have looked over to BlueWhiteKid in the front of an almost empty student section for the inspiration to continue to fight the good fight (I appreciate the hell out of you, Dale!).

Mora changed all that. He wiped out a decade of misery and, along with winning seasons and bowl victories, he brought hope. He brought the fans back out.

I'll give him a pass for the "Good Will Hunting" departure, because he gave me much more in return...

Wait. He had a beef with the administration?

I’m watching Colorado St vs Air Force on TV. Colorado St is 2 and 9 and is getting beat by a lousy Air Force team which UConn beat. They stink. Good luck Mora.

When he does take over at CSU, Mora will have a familiar problem. At the half, Air Force's Josh Johnson (Szarka out for the year I guess with that broken hand) passed twice, completing both for 71 yards. They rushed 36 times, mostly up the middle, for 151 yards. The score is 21-7 Air Force. Sound familiar?

EDIT: Final score 42-21 . 4/4 for 104 yards passing, 316 yards on 67 rushes for Air Force.

Doesn't help. He changed all that, for now. Still doesn't excuse being a richard and blowing off everyone that supported him for 4 years.

Air Force is a team that UConn barely beat if you will recall. They weren't that lousy.

Haha no not true had an in control 10 pt win against Airforce beating them at their own game. Now Navy barely beat Airforce. Now Airforce is not a lousy team agreed there.

A lot of that is probably likely. I would love to know his honest opinion which he probably shared with AD DB about UConn Football. One factor could be that we just don't have the same commitment to football as we do to basketball. We all know the issues but we simply don't prioritize football above all else. That commitment is needed to get invited to the party.

Interesting spot for CSU's old bowl stadium 4 miles west of the current spot

Yup. What I think may become evident, or IS becoming evident, or HAS become evident, is that is the football or basketball trade-off will have to be made to get into a P4. And the simple reason is accretion. Football revenues are not touched by the NCAA whereas BB revenues fund all sort of NCAA activities before the remaining revenues are parceled out to the teams/conferences. Thus UConn's potential revenue additions to a P4 conference are small if they continue spending more on BB than FB.

I am going to guess that what precipitated the blowup between UConn and Mora, was that this very issue was discussed in his hiring discussions and he was promised a decision at a date in the future. And the decision has recently been made, by the trustees, to continue down the basketball pathway rather than that of football primacy. It is really the only scenario that fits the data. The implication of course, is that UConn will not be joining a P4 in 2031 unless the landscape changes. They are misaligned to make that step.

Do you honestly believe this??

God, I really need to start selling that land in the Everglades in bulk...

We beat them by double digits. It would literally take you 10 seconds to look this up.
Somehow you thought I didn't know that? I was there. Until the end. Decided late. Barely double digits.

Well said. And get an on campus stadium too.
