I'm told UConn has been recruiting 2015 G Isaiah Briscoe hard and are a real option. Kevin Ollie and Glen Miller have been in recently

Kind of a surprise, no? Didn't think we'd be going after another point guard when we need a big guy. But he is a top-20 recruit.

Not surprising but unfortunate if they are not focusing on a big man as well. They must be under the impression either Purvis will be leaving early or Hamilton will be a one and done. Or someone will be transfering. In Ollie we trust!

Ollie is fuego on the trail . if we get briscoe we'd have like three nba level guards on deck . well have big men that are juniors and seniors .

I am hearing the Will Jackson is more a SG/SF then a pg.. one of the top TOS said it

It seems like Ollie is recruiting players who can all handle the ball and telling them they will be combo guards. Who ever proves to be the best play maker will run the offense. I think it's a great strategy.

This kid is physically imposing. I really like his game

I personally love the idea of having 3 big, athletic, skilled combo guards on the court at the same time. That lineup, with a stretch 4 and a great shot blocking center could be devastating offensively and defensively.

Talent is talent.

If they can get him, they should.
Exactly. If you are in a good spot with a top 20 recruit you dont stop recruiting him just because there are other players on the team already that play the same position.

.-.
For those who care, there is already a UConn prediction on 247 for Briscoe.

But, but I was told he was a Cuse guy for the past 2 years by the recruiting "Gurus" on their site. I even got temporarily banned for saying it was too early.

I'd rather have one pure PG to run the team and use combo guards to fill in for brief periods. One of these guys is going to have to step up and prove themselves as a premier ball handler and passer. If they can score then all the better but they have to make FTs.

He really was for some time. They just failed miserably at getting him to actually commit.

What are you hearing 3? Looks like we want another guard and a big in this class. You hearing anything new on Adams or Briscoe?

Not 3, but reached out to someone and was told that Briscoe will probably stay close to home, with the main options being UConn, Seton Hall, Rutgers & St. John's. Should be interesting to see how this one develops.

Really nice intel, tcf15. Goes without saying, but we take Briscoe in a heartbeat. We really are spoiled with how well so many of our guys remain on top of the recruiting scene. Between you, 3, 99, aceboon, and others, I always feel informed, and therefore optimistic, about our recruiting and future talent.

I like our chances if that is really the competition.

I think the favorite was Arizona for a while, think they may have cooled on him a bit and with the news about him wanting to stay home you would have to think we have a decent chance.

St John's will have pretty much an empty backcourt outside of Jordan

I am hearing people say Isaiah Briscoe will play mostly sg with possible some time at pg in college..

I would love him, but don't see how we get him and keep Ali and Jackson. That's too many deserving guards without considering that we likely will have either Purvis or Hamilton for more than a single season. And where would junior Samuel be on the depth chart?

On the other hand, I guess Kentucky keeps getting all these highly ranked recruits despite steep competition for playing time, so why not us? I know that KO is a hundred times the mentor and coach that Cal is.

Think we still have room for one pure point guard - hopefully Adams or Briscoe. As far as 15-16, we go 7 deep in terms of guards:

Purvis (Jr)
Hamilton (So)
Calhoun (Sr)
Cassell Jr (Jr)
Samuel (Jr)
Ali (Fr)
Jackson (Fr)

Personally I think Purvis will likely be gone, but nonetheless I think Samuel will be a role player in his Jr year, Cassell's ability as a pure pg is iffy, and everyone else is playing the second and third guard spots (Ollie will presumably play 3 guards, stretch 4 and center). Purvis spelled by a combination of Samuel, Jackson, and Briscoe/Adams would be perfect (not to mention all these guys can get time at the 2). Besides, IMO developing guys through limited minutes early on builds skills/maturity and makes them better players in their later years, which hopefully recruits understand instead of just using college as a stepping stone. DeAndre is a good example of that and he came in a top rates recruit.

He and his dad have said he will play point in College because that's the position he would play in the NBA.
