Is the U C O N N chant the best in college basketball?

No. The women's games have the dumbest and most annoying chant ever.

UCONN... HUSKIES
UCONN... HUSKIES
HUSKIES... UCONN
U

I'm not sure where this came from but most of the time they don't get it right, it's supposed to be one side shouting UCONN and the other side answering HUSKIES, but most people don't get it, it's never that loud, and is just a weak ass attempt at a chant.

Usually it's started by one fan in the entire stadium and if you are lucky, many join in quickly. I think the U...C...O...N...N.... UCONN UCONN UCONN chant is is often started by the band or the cheerleaders so there's generally a larger contingent right out the gate.
Are you new to UConn?

I was was at school and I was doing that cheer so that's a firsthand witness. There's your proof. But if you want to get back up to that, ask Tom whether he made up the chair or whether he just got up and did an existing cheer.

It kind of cracks me up, though, that you think the Jets invented spelling. They didn't.

Okay. Because you said so. 👍🏻

The ending is not 'U' or 'WOO', it's supposed to be 'WOOF'.
Not that that makes it much better. More of an identification than a fight chant.

I remember reading this down there and finally found it. Thank you, internet.
Tampa Bay Times on the Sunday after beating Ohio State in the semis, 3/28/1999:

Here's a look into the stat sheet and way beyond for the highlights and lowlights from Game 1: WORST STREAK Pity poor Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien, who has lost 19 straight games against UConn coach Jim Calhoun. Calhoun's explanation: "When he's had good teams, we've had great teams." O'Brien has nothing to be ashamed of. He engineered one of the best turnarounds in college basketball history, taking to the Final Four a team that was 8-22 a year ago. BEST PLAYER IN GAME 1 UConn forward Richard Hamilton, who led the Huskies with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. Hamilton can score outside or in transition or just put it on the floor and create a shot.

And he does it in the clutch. WORST BODY ON A GUARD UConn's pudgy 5-foot-10, 203-pound Khalid ElAmin, who was described by one coach as a refrigerator with a head. Let it be said that El-Amin is a valuable appliance for the Huskies, as evidenced by his 18 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. WORST DISH The corn dogs for $3.50 at Tropicana. Needed more mustard than El-Amin.

BEST REJECTION Ohio State center Ken Johnson sent a shot attempt by Edmund Saunders into the expensive seats with 1.1 seconds left in the first half. The block enabled the Buckeyes to go to the locker room trailing by just 36-35. BEST CHEER U-C-O-N-N! UConn! UConn! UConn! WORST LINE UConn's Jake Voskuhl had two points, five rebounds and five fouls in 19 minutes. Jake the Rake picked up two fouls in a 20-second span of the second half and fouled out with 1:24 left. WORST SEATS Section 321, Row A.

The ending is not 'U' or 'WOO', it's supposed to be 'WOOF'.

Big red may have done the chat and 1982, but it was already well established when I was in school in the late 70s.
could be my faulty memory, but we had season tickets in the 70s (field house and HCC) and I don't remember that cheer at all.

I do. I also remember opposing teams yelling U S U C K, You suck, You suck, You suck, so I suspect it's been around a long time.

Only tangentially related but many years ago I lived in the downstairs apartment of a house in downtown Danbury near the hospital. UConn was good that year and I took christmas lights and strung them to read UCONN in huge letters in the front windows of my porch. A local newspaper reporter saw it and took a picture and included it in the paper as part of a lead up to a big game they had coming up. Standing in front of the lights and even from the street they clearly read UCONN but in the picture in the paper it looked like UCOON for some reason. A friend called me and told me to check the paper. I was absolutely mortified and took them down.
Anyway, U C O N N UCONN, UCONN, UCONN! is the best chant for so many reasons including the obvious connection to a beloved team fan and because you know if you hear that the team is cooking.
Maybe it's time for redemption ?
Grab the lights , friend, you know what to do .

The Jets and UConn chant are the same exact chant. The extra letter doesn’t make a bit of difference. Spell it then say it three times.
and the Jets chant started in the 70's. im not saying we stole it but def is not original

i do enjoy hearing it though in arenas

To say it’s not the same is like saying “Let’s go Hus-kies clap clap clapclapclap” isn’t the same as “Let’s go Yan-kees clap clap clapclapclap” is different because of the first syllable.
