Is the U C O N N chant the best in college basketball?

The Jets and UConn chant are the same exact chant. The extra letter doesn’t make a bit of difference. Spell it then say it three times.
Lol I love that you're gonna die on this hill Deepster.

Besides the extra letter, the two chance are completely different cadences. I think in the past, we've also established that the UCONN chant is actually older than the Jets chant.

The problem with the Jets chant is that it occurs during kickoff. Kind of an anticlimactic moment. Our chant hits right after a big moment - it's just so timely and hype.

The joke being I like uconn and hate the other two so their chants suck and ours doesn't...

This is why no one has mentioned me on the comedy mt Rushmore thread

The UConn and Jet chants are similar on the surface - both spell the name and say it 3x.

But the UConn chant, the moment in the game, the tradition behind it with Big Red make it infinitely better. The fact that we bring it wherever we play is also awesome.

Only tangentially related but many years ago I lived in the downstairs apartment of a house in downtown Danbury near the hospital. UConn was good that year and I took christmas lights and strung them to read UCONN in huge letters in the front windows of my porch. A local newspaper reporter saw it and took a picture and included it in the paper as part of a lead up to a big game they had coming up. Standing in front of the lights and even from the street they clearly read UCONN but in the picture in the paper it looked like UCOON for some reason. A friend called me and told me to check the paper. I was absolutely mortified and took them down.
Anyway, U C O N N UCONN, UCONN, UCONN! is the best chant for so many reasons including the obvious connection to a beloved team fan and because you know if you hear that the team is cooking.

The UConn!...Huskies! chant is fine. It works during quiet moments of the game if the band isn't playing. But I can't stand it when someone starts it as our guys are getting ready for FTs.
Reminds me of orientation

The vowel sounds make a big difference. Jets vs. UCONN. Just an "eh" vs. "OOO" "OHH" and "AHH"

Nope. Agree to disagree. And the Jets did it first.

Nope. Jets chant started in the 70s. Big Red did the UConn chant in 1982.

Big red may have done the chat in 1982, but it was already well established when I was in school in the late 70s.

It’s amazing. Almost as amazing as…the rest is still Unwritten
Did they stop playing Party up and Ante up at PeoplesBank Arena or have I been too casual to notice?

Big red may have done the chat and 1982, but it was already well established when I was in school in the late 70s.

Prove it.

“According to the “official” history on UConn’s athletics site, that chant tradition “began in the late ’80s after Big Red felt that UConn spirit needed some extra support in leading their chants.

UConn Magazine (University publication) also places the origin in the early 1980s and describes Emery launching the chant because the cheerleaders’ prompts weren’t getting a response.

UConn’s official athletics site, however, describes the tradition as beginning in the late ’80s, so there’s a discrepancy between the university’s short official history and multiple long-form profiles of Emery (the 1982 date is the one most secondary sources attribute to him).”

I was was at school and I was doing that cheer so that's a firsthand witness. There's your proof. But if you want to get back up to that, ask Tom whether he made up the chair or whether he just got up and did an existing cheer.

It kind of cracks me up, though, that you think the Jets invented spelling. They didn't.

No. The women's games have the dumbest and most annoying chant ever.

UCONN... HUSKIES
UCONN... HUSKIES
HUSKIES... UCONN
U

I'm not sure where this came from but most of the time they don't get it right, it's supposed to be one side shouting UCONN and the other side answering HUSKIES, but most people don't get it, it's never that loud, and is just a weak ass attempt at a chant.

Usually it's started by one fan in the entire stadium and if you are lucky, many join in quickly. I think the U...C...O...N...N.... UCONN UCONN UCONN chant is is often started by the band or the cheerleaders so there's generally a larger contingent right out the gate.
I'm with you, I don't know what it is about that chant, but can't stand it

The U...C...O...N...N... chant is best to used during games, particularly after a big play and an opponent timeout.

The UCONN... HUSKIES chant is best to used when entering or leaving the arena. It's more of a greeting or acknowledgment of fans.

Just my opinion.
This is perfect. No notes. The exact right way to be done. I commend you sir.

it's not the greatest call and response chant, but it's better than nothing. Having been to many games with the Tar heels and Duke, tar heels having their "tar....heels...tar...heels" and duke fans respond with...uh...nothing or "lets go duke" at best.

So it fills a gap in the chant repretoire that we're better with, than without.

What's the 82 in your handle all about? 🤔
