Nova admin seems massively conservative and parochial, so unlikely to take any major risks on a wild hair personality. Will Wade is a mid major name you hear a lot, but not sure a southern guy like that would fit the NE catholic school culture.
If Nova makes him a "strong-ass offer" it might work. :)

Any comparison to KO is crazy
KO alleged depleted team surprised everyone by winning 20 games and finishing 10-8 in 2013. A suspension year.
KO ‘s teams won a NC in 2014 winning 32 games
They also 20 games in 2015 and injuries prevented another NCAA hearth
They won 26 games in 2016 and the AAC tourney and got two the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament
We also one more AAC tourney games than any other team . In his first 5 years
If Neptune’s first seasons were even close to that would have a contract extension.
Am I missing something??? Where did I compare him to KO??

Maybe the Nova fan base will be so disgusted by early Jan cough they’ll be more inclined to sell their tix against the good guys in their gym for cheap….

The Ivy's are tough at the beginning of the season. Usually seasoned teams who play a very good system.

In 2004 Yale almost beat one of our best teams ever in the season opener. We won by 10 points but after the game the Yale coach said the best team lost.

So I'm inclined to cut Neptune a little slack on this one.

Don’t forget UConn/Yale 1990, a/k/a the Ed Petersen game! 49-48

Isn't Nova searching for a new AD? Neptune is probably not going to replaced until they have an AD in place.

I think it is good for UConn to have worthy rivals. The Villanova program has had a complete melton since Jay Wright left. Is losing to Columbia the final straw for Neptune?
I think the Big East is in trouble. Besides UConn and Creighton, who else in this conference do you see being able to make a run in the NCAA? Not just make the dance, but go to the Elite 8 or better? Hate to say it, but the overall quality of the conference is at a pretty low point.

It is KOisk. Please don't bring me back to those days

Has Neptune won a national championship?

The 6 coaches that KO beat in the 2014 tournament have a combined 6 National Championships, 23 Final Four appearances, and a combined 3,295 and 1,504 record. Not bad.

Every head coach in Villanova history are either 1) alumni, 2) former VU assistant coaches or 3) former coaches at nearby Philadelphia schools. Rollie was hired from Penn, Lappas and Wright worked under Massimino, Neptune under Wright. That's the culture.

Think that’s about to change. Because this is an unmitigated disaster.

Well considering only 8 teams can make it to the elite 8, having 2 teams capable of doing that is pretty good if you ask me

There is only one team in the Big East I root for. I never get why people feel the need to root for the other teams in their conference. I only care about being the best team not the best conference.

KO won a national title. Sure after the natty it turned to a total shat show but KO was far more successful than Neptune.

We were good in 2013 and 2016 as well

DHam not coming back was the beginning of his downturn, and our dark ages

And I was there, and here, through it all. Although I was a tad less sober, and a lot more miserable, I was here

If I'm Villanova, I ask Jay Wright to work his Hofstra/Villanova connections and help lure Speedy Claxton to Villanova.

He's done an incredible job at Hofstra and runs a fun style of basketball. Would be the jolt Villanova desperately needs.

Nova should be getting the best coach in the country.

Speedy might be good but he's never won a tournament game and he took over a very healthy program from Joe Mihalich.

He wasn't at all on my radar as a potential high major HC until you brought him up. Looks like he's got a really solid history... obviously as a player, but in addition to that he has great scouting experience, been assistant coach for long time, really good HC record for where he's at. Only question mark is if he can recruit at a truly elite level that Nova warrants.

But to be fair, how often do CAA teams ever win a tournament game? Maybe he needs a middle step before Nova, but if he's coaching for his alma mater, he may not want to go to many other places other than a Villanova type job.

I want the other Big East teams to do well out of conference because it helps UConn. The better the conference, the easier it is to recruit. I root for them in the NCAA tourney as well. Obviously I root for UConn above all of that, but the rooting is still to help UConn.

Not often but Nova already made a horrible small time hire with Neptune when they should've hired the best available coach in the country. Expecting to hit another home run hire out of Hofsta would be silly, IMO. Hire the best available coach in the country, someone who has been on multiple tournament runs and is a proven big time recruiter and big time coach.

Since they screwed up so royally with Neptune they can't afford another "let's hope it works out" hire.

Sad to say UConn will probably need to jettison itself from the Big East in the not-too-distant future and latch on with a power conference.

I get your point but Big East is a power conference in basketball.

Neptune has some time to dig himself out of the hole he has put himself into. But he needs to do it this year.

Should have clarified when I say power conference, I'm talking about the big 3 in all sports (SEC/B12/B10). Honestly, I don't think you can really lump the ACC in with those 3 even though technically they are one of the P4.
