In the world of speed, there is Nascar, Usain Bolt and Moriah Jefferson. In her recent interview w/ Jim Fuller, Kia Stokes added Saniya Chong to that list...

"She (Chong) is so quick," Stokes said. "I thought Moriah was quick but she is just as fast, maybe a little faster. She is good, she still has her freshman ways a little bit but she is fitting in with us and how we do things here. She is aggressive, she is quick and she drives to the basket a lot which is good because we always need somebody to get to the basket."

OMG...!! Can we please start the season now...??:) Go Huskies..!!

No , I don't think Chong is as fast as MoJeff..........Having watched both players play , I came away thinking that MoJeff is quicker and faster with the ball in her hands. Chong is 'Fast' , no doubt. But just not as fast as MoJeff. And certainly not as fast or quick with the ball. Where Chong appears to have a clear edge is outside shooting.

I always used the "How fast did my clothes dry as they passed" scale. Or, go by the sound. Let them run loose together -- fun.

.
Where's a better place to judge speed from - on the floor or from the seating?
Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi definitely judged how good the speed they were taking was from how high up in the seating the ball ended up after a swing.

Chong appears to be very quick laterally, with very quick feet and an excellent side-to-side 'burst.'

In the videos I've seen, she doesn't appear to elevate quite as well as Mo (at least to my eye), even though I know she's no slouch in this department. I've seen Mo really get up, a la Lorin Dixon. It may be that Mo is faster going straight ahead down the floor and faster going to the rim, while Chong may have a quicker first step in getting by a defender. Who knows.

We have to give some credit to Kiah; she's there eyeballing the two side by side, in person, so she obviously sees things we don't.

I'll bet that Wonkster is faster with a pun than she is, or anyone else on the team, for that matter.

The truth is it doesn't matter if Saniya is a bit faster than MoJeff or a bit slower...She is faster than we heard or read she was and that is exciting as heck..!!

I realize high school competition is not D1 college hoops...BUT... Chong averaged 34.4 pts a game senior year, made 108 3's in 27 games, shot 87% from the free throw line and scored almost 3,000 points in 96 high school games. And she is the fourth guard behind Hartley, MoJeff and Banks..!! She and a healthy Banks would be one hellofa second set of guards...!! Go Huskies..!!

regardless of which player is faster..it's a really nice "problem" to have to debate over!:D

Does it really matter who is faster than who? Over a short distance, all that matters is that you are faster than the people that guarding you. Sounds like both fit the bill.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a team in wcbb that any one of our second four (whomever that turns out to be) would not start on and few if any that she would not star on.

Don't forget Insane Bolt.

I would imagine....haven't any proof though....that Jefferson might be "quicker" than Chong, but Chong might be "faster", i.e. say over 94 feet. Chong is taller, longer legs, on a baseline to baseline race I could see Chong beating Jefferson. But 3-5 step quickness, until I see differently, I'd go with Jefferson.

If Chong is indeed in Jefferson's class speed-wise with an excellent side-to-side 'burst', that sounds almost unfair on D with the new 10-second rule.

... I can answer that! Chong is way faster than Wonkster. I haven't seen Chong play but I know that Wonkster lost any step he ever had....

Soon I'll be losing more than just my step.

Those who wanted the 10 second rule will rue the day it was passed whenever they play UCONN. All of them except Geno.
