is anyone else nervous ?

Don't we have an open roster spot? When does the portal close?
No. I trust in the coaching staff to make the correct decisions for the program. The portal closes on April 23rd, however players do not have to declare landing spots at that time, they just have to be in the portal by that date. As of today, we have two roster spots available.

IMHO any transfer considering UConn has to fit the Kaitlyn, Lou, Dorka mold. An established credible upperclassman who is looking for a national championship or to hone their already considerable talents under the GOAT coach. It makes no sense to bring in a deep-bench player unless it's a sophomore who knows they have to compete with an already stacked roster of 5-star recruits who all want more playing time.

Dear Lord, please bring us Serah Williams.

I know 2 players who would fit beautifully (as long as they are Genocentric of course). That would be Serah Williams and Kipness (excuse the Spelling) as experienced scorers in the front court and as a 2 respectively.

UConn has 13 on the roster with Q now in the portal.

So two spots available at the moment. We have had more than one transfer on the roster before but I don't think Geno has ever added two in the same year.

They have been connected to Serah Williams who reportedly was at UConn for the first weekend of NCAA tournament games. They have also shown up on a long list of teams showing interest in Okananwa of Duke.

Sounds like it is between UConn, LSU and UNC for Williams.

Nothing about any connection to Kneepkins.

I keep checking the X accounts of Talia Goodman and Skim Milkey. So nervous? - yes, a bit.

Getting Williams for one year and going with a roster of 14 for 2025-2026 works for me. Number 13, here we come!

Kneepkens does not have UConn on her list. She is down to Texas, SCar, Oklahoma and UCLA according to online sources.

I am not nervous. I am satisfied. We won 12. I wasn’t sure we would.

Do I look at the team on paper and think it is as good as the 2024/2025 team? No. Do I think some rival teams look like they have improved? Yes.

I still think we have a good shot at making the final four even if we stand pat.

Last year at this time I posted that we need Reagan Beers badly for post. I want to admit how wrong I was and apologize.

. As an old fan & BY member I am so happy that that middle came thru and we earned a NC.

Unfortunately I again have similar feelings about portal acquisitions. I am hoping that Sareh Williams chooses Geno to help the team & her W preparedness.

I haven’t posted too much this season but watched every game & read the BY frequently.

Anxiously awaiting transfer choices.

If the young woman goes elsewhere, she is making a mistake.

I think I have it correct this year.

Congratulations!!!

Not nervous at all. IMO, UConn is the favorite to win it all next year with the 13 players currently projected to be on the roster next season. if the Huskies add Williams and anyone else, the NCAA might as well cancel next year’s tournament and just hand us the trophy…. ;)

While I can see the probable benefit of getting her, we will still be a top tier contender whether we gat Serah or not. Yes, she would help us inthe post but we will be fine either way.

I’m nervous in the sense that I’m excited to see what the team looks like in the fall.

What I mainly see is that we have enough shooters to keep opposing teams from packing the paint against our post players. Would Serah improve the post position? Yes, absolutely. We also have enough ball handlers to break any press and slash through the lane and score. And most importantly, we have enough gritty experienced defenders to teach all the youngster how it’s done. Would Heckel be able to contribute in this area? Yes, no doubt. But neither addition is a necessity or a sink-or-swim moment.

Finally, Blanca and Kelis are good additions to the team who will be able to contribute on offense and defense. And Gandy is likely to be able to give a few good minutes a game before the season is over, and more in future seasons.

The problem with the ‘Portal’ is that when a player transfers onto a team and ends up with significantly more playing time than others who’ve been there for years competing for that play time, it has a potential for resentment by those who had previously been there. It is a very fine balancing act. A coach not only needs to understand the player they are bringing in, but the attitude of the players he/she currently has on the team!

Case in point: arguably, South Carolina’s best player this past season was MiLaysia Fulwiley. She didn’t start (nor did Edwards). The coaching staff had her coming off of the bench because she was just a sophomore and hadn’t the years of experience others on the team had. Philosophy was that she needed to bide her time, and I think she was fine with that, as was the Freshman Joyce Edwards. Well, the season ended for them, and they had several seniors graduate including guards Brea Hall and Paopao. This opens up the situation to where Fulwiley would be in the driver’s seat going into her junior year, right?

Nope! The Gamecocks immediately go into the portal and signs Ta'Niya Latson, the highest scoring player in the country who also plays the guard position. One day later, Fulwiley jumps into the transfer portal … who would have figured?

Let me think about this for a moment. We just won the National Championship and following that lost one starter, one reserve who was often injured and one reserve who saw very few minutes unless it was against a much lesser opponent. I'd say that with what we have returning, in addition to three highly though of recruits, that we might not be in desperate conditions.

Not to be picky but we lost two starters and one was PAIGE BUECKERS! Hello!

Am I nervous about the portal, no not the slightest, very interested, yes.
While it would be nice to get a quality recruit or two, it won’t be the end of the world for us If we don’t. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re stacked and of course we have Geno. Enough said.

At least one person - Dawn Staley.

Geno knows if he gets the right player - with skill, experience, a team-first attitude, and just a good person - they can integrate seamlessly into the team. Think Dorka and Lou, those two worked out incredibly well without disrupting the team chemistry

Not at all. Geno has a toolbox that is still pretty full. Lots of experience and athleticism. Plenty of youth and raw energy. The question is how quickly they can forge the trust and chemistry that the 2025 edition exhibited.

What happens if Azzi gets injured again? Where's the consistent three-point shooting coming from other than Sara? I know that Allie has the talent to fill in nicely, but I need to see her perform in game situations not just in practice........a player like Kneepkins would make UConn the favorite to win another NC but it appears there's no interest on her part......if she goes to South Carolina along with Latson then everybody is in trouble....

I never anticipate injuries. That’s just borrowing trouble, as my mom used to say. Might as well ask that question about every team.

We have three consistent 3 pt shooters without even counting Allie. It’s not just Sarah.

I won’t worry if Serah or Kayleigh end up in Storrs. But I won’t moan about if they don’t.

Here’s a comforting pass time for folks who worry that Azzi won’t be enough: watch the Texas and NC St games from 2022-23. These are very soothing.

And here’s the Iowa game for good measure.

UConn vs. Iowa - 11/27/2022

And as always, immense gratitude to @MJL243.

My mom always said better to be safe than sorry..........based on her history, the odds are pretty good that Azzi will miss some time next season.........if it's three games it's no big deal but if it's three months then that's a big problem.......adding another proven scorer seems like the prudent thing to do especially if UConn doesn't get Williams who would bring needed interior and midrange offense.....
