Yeah, not so sure about that. It was a production DISASTER and the American public won’t be so easily fooled next time.

How hard is it to make sure ear pieces and microphones work?? And the lead announcer was about 100x overhyped. Not to mention the buffering issues. That was as bad a night as Netflix could have feared with the spotlight on.
Don’t ever underestimate the ability of the American public to be fooled.

Anyone that’s watched a boxing match in the last 30 years knows 8 o’clock never means 8 o’clock there’s always an undercard Usually don’t go off till 11 o’clock. Standard procedure. Member all the pay per view fights back in the day? Old tyson fights were always in Vegas and deff wouldn’t go off till at least 11:30pm ET. They re not gonna have a 5pm fight in Vegas. (Even tho this was Dallas)
I guess the fact that Netflix was hosting a huge boxing event and drawing in many new fans to the sport, it felt a bit misleading to keep stressing Tyson/Paul 8:00 PM or whatever it was.

So you are right but even I was surprised at how definite some of those promos were that it started ~8 PM.

Was it sad? He went out there. Still showed some reflexes, but didn't look crippeled. He was washed at 39 losing to McBride.

Yes, I wish he could fight. But he can't. His body wont let him.

It was more sad for me. watching him move around like that actually made me feel old. :)

I'm not trying to defend anyone here and I think we all know that at 58 years old, Iron Mike wasn't going to do anything impressive. I thought he might be able to get some power punches in. I didn't watch so I don't know. We knew it wasn't going to be real boxing.

In sports we expect teams to let up when the game is over. Sportsmanship. Winning the fight in real boxing isn't enough, we want to see a knock-out.

"There was a point where he (Tyson) was not engaging back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit.
"That violence war thing... that went away as the rounds went on.
"I tried to give the best fight I possibly could.
"When someone's just surviving in the ring, it's hard to make it exciting.
"I don't care what people have to say. It is what it is."
"I'm sorry I didn't knock him out.
"After I'd seen him tired I didn't want to put too much hurt on him, but I wanted the fans to get a good experience."

I don't blame him for not KO'ing an old man. I blame him being cpmplicit in embarrassing the entire sport of boxing twice a year.

The places I looked up all said main card starts at 8 pm with Paul / Tyson likely at 10/11. The main fight in UFC is barely ever on before midnight

George Foreman fought real fighters and last won at age 48 I believe in 1997.

I'm an average athlete.

At 48 I was three years removed from playing QB in our annual geezers vs younguns T-day game, and winning.

At 58 I was three years shy of an ACL, an MCL, a fractured meniscus, bone chips, and arthritis in both knees due to playing lob pitch softball. Oh, and plantar fasciitis too.

Some terrific athletes have played pro sports into their 40s. Nobody does past 50.

How was that farce sanctioned?

So many things wrong with it from Jake Paul clearly being on steroids and Tyson most likely being on steroids, to Tyson's age, to neither guy trying.

They didn't even try to make any of it look real, another black eye for boxing.
Texas gonna be Texas is my guess how it was sanctioned. I'm just surprised they didn't have a live rattlesnake in the ring during the fight to spice things up.

True. I hear ya. And I will admit nowadays when they say somethings gonna start sports wise, It usually means within 20 minutes- max /baseball playoffs ,NFL kick offs, NBA etc… usually do start fairly close to the time whereas back in the day that was long pregames and lead-ins

Why blame him. Give him credit for doing an awesome fleece job. Blame all the suckers that paid him. It's a free country after all.

Netflix is going to surge in value after this.

Bandwidth is an easy solution to fix.
Proof of concept they can get massive numbers for a horrible product.
Spot on stock up 2.8% this week. No one really talking about the horrible streaming experience. They are probably working on fight #2. I would love to see Paul fight Canelo, he (Paul) just might be reaching a bit in wanting to fight a real fighter who is under 40 yrs old.

If someone watched for 5 seconds did they count you?

then they counted me a couple dozen times because that's how many times I had to login in order to watch even five seconds.

I don't know anybody who took this fight seriously, they just wanted to watch a train wreck.

Reaching a bit is an understatement. Put aside that Canelo has fought as high as 175 lbs. and Paul just weighed in at north of 220 lbs., Canelo still dog walks him even in the decline in his career at whatever weight Paul wants to fight at.

Paul should stay in boxing as a promoter and if he wants to do his side show fights on those cards that is fine, but market it as just that. If he is serious about becoming a world champion like he says he should start fighting current active boxers and work his way up the ranks like everybody else does. The thing is, he is not serious about that. Real champions, Dubois (200+ lbs) and Beterbiev (175 lbs) have already called him out on this after the Tyson fight offering a chance to fight for a world title, to which Paul has laughed it off. Paul knows what would happen if he actually got in the ring with a real boxer right now.
