Ireland’s 6'5" Gandy Malou-Mamel, class of 2025, commits

weird. averages about 8 points and 7 rebounds a game for a so-so schedule. I guess the coaches see a lot of upside. Maybe she is a raw recruit. YOu would think at 6 5 she would score more and rebound more just based on her height advantage in high school.

Maybe there was a senior big ahead of her who took a lot of minutes? Not clear how many minutes she got or what her shooting percentages were. Will see what some Jersey fans know about her. Hopefully good stuff.

UConn's recruiting reminds me of a saying Pro Wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper used to have. "When you think you've got the answer, I change the question." Geno thinks way out of the box these days and his foreign recruiting is awesome! I'm as excited about this pickup as I have been for any in the past 3 or 4 years. She is going to be an All American force before she is done. ESPN can take their top 100 and stick em. BTW - on the Irish U17 National Team and I also can't find any evidence that she played in the US her Freshman year. This is no Piath pick up. She is going to be a program changer.

I think this is her coach's assessment - "Lets start with the insane fit, powerful body. Then let’s move to the 6’10” inch wing span. Now let’s talk about the quickness and athleticism. Not enough, how about a big that hustles and chase every rebound… she runs the floor has wonderful hands and has only been playing two years….recruiters start your engine. The new bigger, better stronger ERIKA PORTER?"

Not going to try and read between the lines here. I will just welcome her to the family, and leave the coaching and preparation to the staff. Obviously, they saw something in her they liked and figured they could develop.

She plays "bully ball" and intimidates on defense. I like her already.

I'll wait until she arrives in May of 2025, and Geno tells us how they plan on incorporating her into the program. Another BIG joining the program. In Geno I trust.

Top of the morning to our newest recruit. A couple of thoughts. I love the fact that UConn can fly yet another flag for their League of Nations recruits over the past few years. (Somebody please post an Irish flag.)

The one thing that is always important for any BIG to play at UConn is that they must “run the court!!!” From the very limited highlights of her, clearly Gandy runs the court. That’s a good place to start if you’re going to play for Geno.

I’m very excited about this. A big girl who plays tough? Heck yeah. Especially since she’ll be coming in with something to prove. Only upsides here. I think she’ll prove to be a real diamond in the rough.

On Edit: DO NOT trash Piath in this thread. She has moved on - we need to move on too

Stats for St. Bernard’s High this past season

And she has two more years of high school to learn and refine her skills
