Congrats UCONN fans ion a great season. This is going to be a really good game. I must admit I have only seen your team play twice this year so I don't know what to expect. Looks like it could be a fast paced high scoring game. Your guards look really quick, can drive to the hole and have good jump shots. How are your big guys?

Any questions about ISU please feel free to ask.

Boatright is extremely quick and as a result, hard to stay in front of. The downside is that because he's so small, he had trouble finishing in the paint. His decision making had been superb since the start of the conference tourney; he seems to kick it out to the open shooter more often now, and only shoot when under control or likely to draw a foul. Napier is our rock, similar to your DeAndre Kane. He has an extremely quick trigger; when his shot is on, it's almost impossible to keep him from hitting 3s, as he'll fake the drive and step back for the jumper, or just take it from beyond NBA range. Also has terrific court vision.

As for our big men, Amida Brimah is our center and far and away our best option at the position. He's long and athletic as a 7-footer and as a result, a very good shot blocker. He's still young though, so at times he will go to block the shot he really has no business blocking and leaves the lane wide open for an easy put back. All in all, though, as a freshman he's playing his best basketball of the year. Solid rebounder and a pretty decent post up game that's improving every day.

DeAndre Daniels is our starting PF, although he's more of a stretch 4. He's pretty good at posting up and hitting the short jumper, or catching the ball 15 feet out and taking his man off the dribble. Very good 3 point shooter, although his post game is very hot and cold. Pretty good rim protector; when we face smaller lineups like I suspect yours is now, he has the length to slide over to the 5.

Other random notes...

Niels Giffey is our glue guy. A 6'7 senior, he can do it all: great defender, terrific 3-point shooter (he's 2nd on the country in 3pt shooting %), can handle well enough to fill in at the 2, and is tough enough down low to play the 4, or even the 5 against smaller lineups.

Lasan Kromah is a 5th year transfer who is probably our best one-on-one defender. Decent 3-point shooter, and can take it to the rack fairly well if he's not closely guarded. I suspect he'll see a lot of time on Kane.

Terrance Samuel is a 6'4 backup freshman PG. Great defender, I'd say just a hair below Kromah, and his biggest strength offensively is his ability to break you down off the dribble and get into the paint, where he is strong enough to finish well or kick out to an open shooter. Doesn't average many minutes per game, although he came in our last game against Nova when Shabazz had 2 fouls and got us back in the game with terrific defense. I suspect he'll see a lot of the court Friday.

All in all, our strength is defense. If we're able to keep Kane out of the paint (tall task, I know), I think you guys have a hard time scoring. A bit worried about our ability to rebound as well . Either way, should be a fun game.

All Iowa State needs to do is copy exactly what Louisville does and you'll win going away.

They are the return of Lew Alcindor, Bill Russell, Hakeem Olajuwan, and Ralph Sampson; or a close approximation thereof.

I think the key to this game is to avoid this scenario. UConn will guard on defense and unlike past teams will not try to out-run you, but instead play half court offense and selectively attack when numbers are at UConn's advantage. It will be a grind to the end but should be entertaining.

And more thing - don't think this UConn team forgot about 2012 NCAA loss to you guys - Bazz, Boat, Giffey, Daniels, Olander will want payback.

just no that we want to win, bad. You beat us in 2012 and our guys(namely our star bazz) have not forgotten. Our bigs are week, but losing that kid really hurt you guys, he would have eaten us up.

Count on Nolan to start, take at least one charge and be yanked out of the game five minutes in. Then comes our secret weapon, Brimah(dikembe mutombo.......... junior) and if he doesn't get into foul trouble we our golden!

Agree with avoiding the high pace. I think people who don't watch UConn a lot and only see highlights see a smaller guard oriented offense and think UConn likes to run a lot. UConn is methodical in using the clock. One thing on defense over the past 5-6 games, I think UConn has gotten at least one shot clock violation called on the opposing team.

You might also note that Uconn is one of the best free throw shooting teams you will ever see. It doesn't sound sexy, but it wins games, especially down the stretch.

Yeah, I think the key to UConn's game is to play slow, drain the clock, and draw as many fouls as they can. ISU is not terribly deep now that they lost Niang. They're bigger than us and the key to solve that problem is to force them to change their matchups with those who are in foul trouble.

Since you've already heard the rumors about our star players I'll give you the scouting report on a few lesser knowns. Feel free to relay this info to your friends, family or an assistant coach.

Our bigs are 7 foot 300lb tanks that can post up or step back and take a j. Both are quick and strong but are also stretch 5s, think dirk but jacked. One of our bigs goes by the name of Tyler olander. He's mostly an emeka clone, not super skilled offensively but a real rim protector.

Tomorrow I'll give you the book on our up and coming pg/sg sensation, Omar Calhoun. People throw around The name Caron butler/Ben Gordon when talking about him but honestly he's more of a Ray Allen/Rip type gaurd. Great movement without the ball and shoots near 50% in shoot around. More on him later. Some teams double team Omar even when he's on the bench. I wouldn't recommend that but it may have some merit.

Our senior forward from Germany is Giffey who is really only on the team because of APR problems. Don't bother guarding him because he doesn't really do much. You may see him on the three point line but that's really just a distraction to keep our big from being doubled. Sometimes he plays center when we purposely try to lose lol. It's actually pretty cute to see.

Anyway that's all I have for now but as we get closer to game time I'll break down the 2-3 we run and refuse to come out of no matter what is going on in the game. Hint: think cuse but with less success, we didn't go 25-0 and havnt in some time.

Bazz and Boat literally can't stand each other. Try to throw a wedge up in there. Turn them against each other will rumors or flat out lies and they'll be at each other's throats and bazz will start fouling on purpose.

If those guys put on some uniforms right now, yeah, probably.

(Hakeem could probably still do some damage.)

Shabazz Napier can't shoot the three to save his life. Other teams just leave him open and dare him to shoot. We've been exposed so many times from this.

Giffey mid-season suffered from cataracts but insists on shooting the three as well. It's gotten so bad the opposing teams sometimes gets nervouse for the ball hitting their heads. But Ollie's German heritage makes him loyal to a fault so he keeps playing Giffey.

Boatright has a hard time finishing lay-ups because he only has four toes on one foot and six toes on the other. He basically can't jump that high but man you just love the effort. Other teams are mean and actually give him a clear path just to see what the little guy will do with his 12 inch vertical.

I remember two years ago, all the talk about Drummond, and ISU made fun of us, because we made him sound a bit like @Bryan Lord is making Brimah look. And then, in the game, Drummond was terrible.

Yet, now they probably realize how lucky it was that the game was in 2012...

Funny but when the OP asked about our big guys it felt like my wife asking how was the party I went to. You know you want to answer but skip the details.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. But its not like the Iowa State coaching staff is going to read the boneyard to develop a game plan to beat UConn...hum...maybe they should.

Now I was going to respond with, our bigs are huge and dominating, capable of scoring 20 points or more. Iowa State should only play man to man if they want to beat UConn. ;)

Man, you guys are being mean. Honestly, if you want to give them a fair evaluation of the team, you'd tell them about our best lineup:

The three guard line-up of Watts, Guest, and Lenehan, with the down-low combo of Facey and Tolksdorf. If I were advising Hoiberg, that's where I'd invest his time. We've done a good job, though, of keeping video hard to find.

That's a wonderful scouting report. Spot on. The only thing you could have mentioned but didn't is our German sharpshooter, Leon Tolksdorf. He gained valuable experience playing for the German national team this summer and is called upon late in games to get us another three pointer. Just see the dagger three he hit in our clutch win over South Florida.

Misinformation is key. The BY is well versed in this tactic. . .
