Man, Clark just flies around the court. She reminds me of Jackie Stiles. I hope Iowa gets her some help, it would be a shame to see a player like her without some WNBA talent around her.

Yeah, I’m not envious of the #1 that gets Maryland as their 2. Send them SC or TAMU’s way, please.
I think Maryland might be a 1 seed. The ones, to me, are:

UCONN
Stanford
SECT winner
Maryland

NC State and Lou are both 2 seeds to me.

We all love Paige and know that she will get her share of votes, especially given that she plays for the # 1 team in the country, BUT !!! CLARK is the REAL DEAL and will certainly give Paige a run for her money for ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

You have 62 points in the third quarter with 3:30 to go and you are down by 24. Wow!

Brenda said that Angel will not play until the tournament.
Maryland has adjusted quite well to her absence, considering how much heavy lifting she did for them prior to her injury.

If she can rejoin the lineup without too much chemistry disruption, watch out because MD will be trouble.

Diamond Miller looks like she shuffles her feet before she dribbles almost every time and it is not being called.

The problem for Maryland is that their resume doesn’t hold up. Losses to Ohio State and Missouri State to go with a resume where the best win is over...Indiana or Arkansas? Not exactly the stuff of top seeds as impressive as they’ve looked today.

I think given the committee rankings we’ll also have to see them jump a bunch of teams ahead of them. If TAMu and SC split the season and tourney, it’s possible that they could both end up #1.

I notice that too. It might be an unwritten rule because I've seen several women players do it. They don't do this in the men game.

90-70 MD end of third
Almost as many points as Maryland scored against Arkansas after 3 quarters. I think that was something like 98.

Trivia guestion -

In today's Maryland v Iowa game, are there more combined made 3's for both teams or shouts of "OH MY GOODNESS!" from the announcers?

I love Maryland but I agree. The resume doesn’t warrant a 1-seed yet. I’m not sure it matters because with the way MD scores, they have a shot to beat anyone.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Iowa pull the upset. Maryland OR Iowa doesn't defend the 3 well. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Maryland win by 20+.
There, I fixed it for you...

As a MS State fan, I tuned in to watch Chloe Bibby play and was treated to a very entertaining game. As for Bibby, there are many MSU fans including multiple ones who post here, who say Bibby left MSU because she knew she wouldn't get much playing time because of Sidney Cooks and Madison Hayes. That's ridiculous, and I mean no offense to those two players. Today was a typical Bibby game, 36 minutes, 14 points, 6 rebounds (4 oreb), 4 assists, and 0 turnovers. She would have been a much needed key player at MSU and would have turned several of our losses into wins. Why so many MSU fans dont recognize how valuable she was to the team is a mystery to me.

Same can be said about offense for many teams who are in contention. No one is without their weakness...
Name one team you view as Defensive without offense that you view as a contender?

Did you not see several shot clock violations against Iowa?

I think @DefenseBB was referring to both teams as neither team shut the other one down. Shot clock violations are great based on the box score, it doesn't seem like Maryland was tough defensively.

I have to watch the replay however it seems that had Iowa not let things get out of hand in the first quarter this could have been a different game. The scoring for quarters 2 - 4 were fairly even with Iowa outscoring Maryland in 2 of them.

Well I guess I would say some of your top teams aren’t the most consistent teams offensively

Maryland needs to work on their D. Doesn’t mean they aren’t a contender though

Arkansas is not very good defensively and found ways to beat Baylor and UCONN.

UConn had 6 players who were just 11 games into their college careers. Do not for a second think UConn now is anywhere near what that team was. They now play defense and they are running the offense how Geno wants them to. UConn has morphed into a team that will be favored to win the national championship. That was not the case coming out of the Arkansas game.

Not sure what you meant by “your” nor do I think that matters.
So yes, in one game, a hot offensive team without defense can beat a good defensive team as shown by your examples. However to win a title requires 6 Great offensive games and again by your example, Arkansas has 6 losses so they have not been consistent enough to win a title. Maryland for all its gaudy offensive numbers also had played the 29th SOS with 9 games in Quadrant 3 and 4 (yuck). They lost to Missouri State and Ohio State.
Now match them up in Sweet 16 to The title game of 4 straight teams most of which will have a better defense than themselves. Name another Big10 team with any form of defense? You really can’t is my point. Michigan, Indiana, NW are all in that 15-30 ranked type teams. Not like Stanford, SC, UConn, Arizona, UCLA offense and defense or even the Baylor defense would be a good match up.

Real contenders have both offense AND defense.
One sided teams do not win titles.

That I agree with. Do I think Maryland is a National champion caliber team? Probably not

Do I think they can ruin some brackets if they get hot? Sure

Maryland's offense was very good tonight with over 61 FG%. And stat check that their average FG is 49%. So it's not their usual performce. Maybe Iowa just had poor denfense.

Could it have been that Clark & Benzan were just on fire 🔥 and attempts to shut them down left their teammates open.

Maryland had a lot of losses to graduation and transfer. Reese got hurt and missed most of the regular season. No one expected them to be some top team so while their defense is not good, they have done a nice job adapting and finding a way to be effective. They probably aren't a national title contender but most aren't, and just the fact that they are in the mix amongst the top 16 is a good accomplishment for them in this Covid year. I don't remember hearing much about BIbby or Benzan when they picked Maryland, Bibby was considered someone who was going to lose her minutes. and Benzan came from mid major level, but Maryland has schemed and found a way to be effective.
